3D brawler is maybe the worst boxing minigame I've ever seen
it's not really a boxing minigame, it's just another terrible rhythm minigame where you have no recourse but to memorize the motions of these ♥♥♥♥♥♥ gimmick models that aren't funny or cute. there's no counters, there's no strategy, you don't even get to build meter from doing a good job at defending. it's just terrible. whoever designed it should be fired.
like seriously, do they actually playtest this crap, and if they do, do they only hire ballwashers who are just so enraptured by being there that they'll go along with any sort of slop?

It was just RNG rock paper scissors in the original. Now there’s at least tells that you can react to.

Pause at the height of the backswing, queue up input, unpause. I easily beat Sephiroth and the party animal this way.
You can pause the game whenever your opponent starts making a move, giving you time to read and react to it.

oh so I'm supposed to just be glad they made this minuscule amount of progress in 25+ years?
listen guys, the issue is not a question if I can beat it or not, the issue is that this thing just sucks and you should recognize that.

It does suck, but these games are made for a Japanese audience and they apparently enjoy this kind of crap. The Yakuza games are insanely popular and those are filled to the brim with similar awful minigames.

Yakuza is better about this than FFVII R though. Their minigames are better designed and while they might have subquests that act as introductions to them, they never gate 100% subquest completion behind having to master a minigame.

They're way better than in FF7 R, defintly. Especially way better than this brawler... but saying Yakuza doesn't gate 100% behind a minigame is also wrong. In Y0 for example you have to beat the hardest Disco guy to complete his story.

I guess there were some cases of that in some of the Yakuza games, but they're still less anal about it than FFVIIR. For instance, they often give you cheat items for things like baseball and gambling. It's just really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up how they gated 100% subquest completion behind beating one of their absolute worst minigames right before the finish line with no recourse, but I guess we should be happy they at least let you skate by with minimum effort for the quests that required playing piano.
Yes, you can beat the brawler by cheating with pauses, but that's just further proof that this minigame is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and should have either been overhauled or just removed from the game. Maybe they shouldn't have wasted time making other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ minigames like Glide de Chocobo and the one where you pick mushrooms or lure chickens and make sure that the Gold Saucer actually delivers on the content.

Full one hour after your comment and still nobody tried to convince you, how great (and optional) these minigames are? im disappointed ;)

right buddy because if the content is "optional", then it's okay for it to be bad and you should never expect more. got it.

The game is actually kinda fun, but is made terrible by awfully similar moves from the opponent that barely let you read what they're doing.

Implying Pocket Circuit isn’t the most fun minigame in Yakuza 0.
