Given how rebirth has AAA open world chores on a map gameplay you'd think OP would like it then
If the majority of the players likes it but you don't, have you ever considered the problem might be you?

It is boring, you go from one ubisoft farcry chore to the next. You spend more time playing mini games and padding then the actual story. The game is 80% chores. get this then return this. It's crazy... If I wanted to play wow or ff14 any mmo game I would. Want to make a materia build? Well sorry buddy you gotta do these stupid mini games and chores then when the game is almost over you can make those builds you wanted to try. These shills defending this lame questing structure that just sucks any type of fun you can actually get from this game need to take their meds for the ADHD they have. Without the padding the game is only 4 hours long 6 tops. 60 hours in and most of that was 59 hours of just mini quests and chores "side quests" to get summons and great materia for my builds in 2 and half regions.

FF7 rebirth, suicide squad and spiderman 2 and ubosoft games all suffer from this doing chores boring structure. You know what they all have in common? Sweet baby stink. It is their fault because the proof is there from different games from different studios and the only thing they have in common is sweet baby stink.

Everyone who knows me knows I am a huge ff7 fan and even I don't even want to finish this game or play the next one. because they said they were going to pad it with these chores much harder. Nah, no thanks.. I rather be water boarded then play anymore of this game.

There's barely 20k steam players playing this game. IT's not as popular as you think. FF7's time has past, it's all gacha games these days.

20k steam players in a year old game thats being ported, of which most of them are new players rather then people buying it a second time, it not a small amount by any stretch.
It's probably more like 50% new 50% vets waiting for PC verison. PS5 version didnt sell much either by virtue of players waiting for PC version.

assuming 50% of people playing are people who bought the game twice is a very unreaslitic extreme to expect.

It's currently Square's second most played game on the entire platform, only behind the wildly successful MMO by ~2,000 players. Remake Intergrade is right behind it. In terms of peak players, it's in third place, right behind the DQ3 remake, and ahead of the very well received FF15.

It's objectively successful for Square, and easily one of their best performing PC games of all time. But by all means, keep sticking your head in the sand because you have some bizarre personal investment in the game failing for some reason.
The game itself isn't bad but since FF in general is no real JRPG anymore its just mid to me.
I enjoyed the original back on PS1 since it was still a somewhat unique experience but well.
Since I prefer real JRPG over this mixed up stuff its hard to like or dislike it.

If you want a real one you shouldn't go for FF these days.
Still, the game is more or less fine (except the sloppy upscaling that shouldn't even exist)

It's comical watching people defending a terrible game claim it's the other person who is making things worse.

The pacing of the game is jank as fk.... mainly because they needed to insert padding to stall for time between game releases after they decided to break one game into three. The combat engine using poor AI teammate control that don't generate DPS/ATB as fast as the player while they stand in things to get hit. FF12 had a better AI combat system and that's 22 years old.

Character hit boxes are bigger than the character and the perfect block mechanic isn't perfect because it doesn't attack cancel and enemy attack animations don't sync with hit boxes. In-battle cutscenes can still stall out and waste special attacks.

The story has been butchered. Pacing/padding are way off due to needing to stall for time between games.
Game Save/Progress didn't carry over after they said it would.
Items/Summons/Spells are gone.
Vincent isn't a playable character......
Chadley and what's her name having to interrupt gameplay to tell you about the thing you don't care about but can figure out. Oh.. do tell me about another tower...

When the director was asked why the game introduced Sephiroth as early as they did he said "The fans already knew who he was.".... so to hell with good story telling and suspense. A ton of stuff was also entered because fan service and key jangling. Oh and Aerith's scene is destroyed because the Director read a bunch of forum theories and just decided to insert them into the game.

People 10/10'ing this game are the problem.
game is hard to want to play. i dont want to go find more towers and poi's. when did cloud become chadley's ♥♥♥♥♥.
Cloud can't decide if Chadley or Sephorith is worth all his underserved and now retconned weird attention. This is what happens when you put Nomura in charge of the game's ethos.

The MMO has it;s own launcher that's been around years longer than the game has been on Steam, most players use that. Rebirth is miles behind 14 in player numbers.

On the platform. Read the entire message, I wasn't talking about altogether, the MMO's obviously their most profitable property.
