FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH

Kyrie and Yuffie ‘personalities’ = shoot me now
I’d high praise racked up for the game until I met Kyrie, who I don’t recall being this absolutely repellent in the Remake. But googling a video of it there now, I see another character states ‘the girl doesn’t exactly fit in’.

But oh man did they dial this up to obnoxious in FF Rebirth. It’s as if the writer got negative feedback from Remake and decided to ‘stick it’ to everyone and make the character 100 times pointedly worse in Rebirth. Just because she felt immune to getting fired.

I sincerely hope that changes.

Was this person also on the oddball Veilguard writing team by any chance?

Anyway, I just turned down the sound for the Kyrie parts and thought ‘who cares - it’s only a nastily written side character, the rest of the game is great so far, so what could go wrong?’

Enter Yuffie. And an unavoidable main character, surely written by the same strange, strange individual.

‘But she’s only 16 - she’s supposed to represent an immature teen’.

Lol, wot. Anyone who thinks teen girls, especially 16 year old teen girls, talk like this, then they never talked to teen girls when they were a teen. There are 8 year old girls with higher levels of maturity. You’ll maybe get one or two girls who are profoundly socially maladjusted, but that’s the exception.

She has no substance, because the writer who created her has no substance. There’s nothing to her inane character except the unrelatable obsession to a nonsense magic item called materia (who cares?).

After that, it’s every repellent trait in the book! Talks over the adults when they’re speaking. Lectures the adults like she’s wiser than they are. Can’t respond neutrally to any remark - it must always be a quip tritely boasting about how she’s ‘the best’.

Has to constantly the narrative spotlight as though she’s the ‘real’ main character.

Even the way she sits in the ‘recovery HP//MP chairs’ has to have an obnoxious animation!

Jesus Christ - and then the portrait also has to be ‘special’, with that stupid grin.

I guess to people who are equally socially maladjusted, she seems quirky and endearing.

I’ll admit I have a low tolerance for fools, but this takes the cake. I’ve never come across a character more hateful than this idiot. I mean, if she was your daughter you’d have her on meds or something to try and stabilise her. But it wouldn’t change the fact that she has no future, either with relationships or a career.

Only intelligent plot I can think for her is if the others stopped tolerating how obnoxious she is and she eventually ‘grew up’. But she seems like a no-hoper, someone you’d just abandon in life.

Yet the devs compel you to keep her around.

Look, I can only advise that for part 3, there should be some way of side-lining her so that she’s only talking to - at? - you during her side quests. Otherwise she’s considered ‘off’. As in permanently.

I'm a 'millennial' going of the age ranges for that rubbish (29-44), but 'ok' Yuffie.

LOL! I love this reply. It's so realistic to why people like the characters, because they are children themselves.

You've certainly demonstrated that with your 'ok boomer' jibe and the assertion that I 'ain't' mature.

Seems like by making this post you found both Yuffie and her writer in the comment section
Yuffie is a kid. She's like a baby. she's what, 16? Have you dealt with energetic and "genki" 16 year olds lately? Yuffie is about right. I have specifically, in my youth, met quite a few girls like this. Yuffie is a cheerleader in a different form, entirely too energetic and happy and weird and honestly about in line with my experience with energetic teen girls

OP knows she is a kid, like most everyone else in the world. Stop telling people what they already know, as if you have a clue. They were just saying she seemed like she was a lot younger then her age is all, and that it bothered them.

I mean, doesn't seem like he gets it then? 16 year olds are 3 years removed from being 13 or 4 from 12. They are not that mature, depending on the kid, and "acting their age" is different for every kid.

So again, she's about in line with energetic, too-excitable kids.

ESPECIALLY if you know anything about Japanese affectations and expectations of girl behavior.

The estate I live in is filled with teenage girls. Yes, they are energetic. No, they are not obnoxious. There's a big difference.

Absolutely no way do I remember teenage girls acting like this, and I even worked with them for several years in the local Tescos. If they acted like this, they'd be sacked.

Every now and then young people get giddy/silly - so do adults - it's every now and then, now every single moment. This is indicitive of a deeply one-dimensional character.

Anyway, I said my piece. Googling around, I'm not alone. There are dozens of threads stating the same thing across multiple platforms.

Whoever wrote her is clearly a pal of the Veilguard 'quirky' writers.

Veilguard was a financial disaster and the entire writing team was recently sacked.

Cheers.

I have no insight on what OP meant or thinks. I'm just saying that you replied with what they already know, that she is a child, and that they think she acts younger then what they are. Thats it.

Whoever wrote her is a Japanese person who has seen this trope amongst countless forms of anime. Yuffie is a pretty common archetype in Anime. Unsure what people here were expecting. In the original she was genki and obnoxious as well.

I'm not sure what Veilguard has to do with any of this. 100% unrelated. Not even the same culture or country. One character makes it veilguard? Please.

Also, on point, Yuffie was always a pretty one dimensional character "genki" character in the OG. One of the few who really was a side character with only one major thing she does in Wutai and doesn't grow much. This is no surprise if you played the OG. She's obnoxious from beginning to end. You dont' have to like it it but it's about what she was the entire time in the OG.

She's taken centre stage since she got her own add on to disk 1 and she is over used, especially when Red is relegated to pet jokes.

For a lot of people in the OG she wouldn't have even been in disk 2, some might never have gotten her in the party on a play through, small chance of her appearing in a random battle in a forest, bigger chance later in the game before Wutai area, that's Yuffies section, you needed to run around for x amount of time in a forest to get her in the party.

She is a caricature of a teenager, exaggerated to force home the point that she's younger than the others. They do it with red just by changing his voice.
