No jumping and flying enemies
I am gonna go ahead and say it, with this type of combat, having flying enemies and no jumping during combat is aggravating af. I do not want to play as Barret, and forcing me to swap my party is just annoying. Almost worthy of uninstalling tbh

if you dodge as cloud and than attack you do a range attack kinda like the master sword beam
this will let you build up enough atb to cast a skill they are weak against.

Yeah I get that, but its such a roundabout way of getting onto the air, especially vs CC heavy bosses. The game has good aerial combat, I just don't understand the design choice in not having a dedicated jump button during combat. That in itself would make it feel better dramatically imo.

Maybe dedicated jump button would feel good.. i don't know how they would work that into the controller being skills are tied to it... even jumping in the red 13 game didn't feel good , but thats something entirely different

There is jumping, Cloud can often attack enemies in the air, as well as use a ranged ability, perhaps stop just spamming the attack button and use it properly?

1) As mentioned, Cloud can easily dodge into the air and attack from range
2) Cloud can use his early game Firebolt Blade ability to get into the air and launch himself at distant enemies
3) Cloud can use synergy skills to use ranged attacks
4) Tifa can use her early game reverse gale ability to get into the air and pull distant enemies to her
5) Tifa can use synergy skills to get launched into the air and at distant targets
6) Barret can attack from range by default
7) Aerith can attack from range by default
8) Yuffie can attack from range and pull herself to distant/air targets by default
9) Basically every magic materia can be used from any location in a fight to target any enemy
10) Folio magic skills give all characters ranged magic to use that refund ATB for minimal cost
11) Most synergy abilities are either ranged or hit a wide area, or both
12) Synergy skills used correctly gain ATB for both party members if you insist on not swapping in order to gain ATB faster
13) Auto unique ability materia can substantially help accumulate ATB for non controlled party members
14) Synergy materia allows non controlled party members to automatically use magic for free when you use ATB
15) Switching characters while blocking teleports the new character to the location of your targeted enemy, and doing so with Cloud/Tifa this additionally brings them into the air
16) Edit- forgot one! Cloud's disorder ability can launch him into the air mid-combo without needing to dodge

Pick as many as you like

How? If you had jump you hit jump then attack. Instead you hit dodge then attack
