Why did they change Aerith's personality from remake? (SPOILERS)
Remake Aerith had a very distinct personality that was probably the best character writing I've seen in a long time. Everything about her is congruent with who she is:
- She has an effect of psychological and social healing to those around her.
- This feels very intimate very fast, and makes it easier to feel things.
- It fits with her healer archetype and background story.
- She acts like she already knows the party characters. As if she's already been through everything.
- She says things that acknowledges the feelings of the player who has played OG FF7 and feels a tension to want to do things differently this time around.
- Her mannerisms and way of thinking perfectly symbolize what it means to be human and to be connected to other people.
- We need this kind of thinking in the real world right now, further establishing her image as a healing goddess because she even heals the real world.
- The only negative thing she said was that johnny isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, and that sephiroth is "all wrong".
- Even in scenes where she was captured by hojo, she was sternly looking at him without responding. And showing her human side as soon as he wasn't able to see her.
- The things she said were confident and calming. From the first moment you see her.

I was bawling my eyes out multiple times because it was so incredibly good. I was deeply touched personally and artistically. A level of emotional finesse only achievable with a remake of a game that has traumatized it's players 20 years before. Psychologically accurate too.

Rebirth changed her to be more "normal asian idol girl". She's insecure. She's more negative. harsh expectations of how boys should act.

Is anyone else noticing this?
What happened?
Is this part of the story? If not, couldn't they have foreseen that this was a bit strange?

Idk if you have played Rebirth fully or not so I don't wanna say anything, but imo there is a reason for that and that is explained, maybe not straight to your face but it is explained imo
Where is she negative and insecure? I'm at chapter 11.

I think she is the same but Tifa got more Screentime to shine, which is fine imo

The only time I thought she was out of character was when she raised her hand and said "does this make me dumb" at the beginning and "does this make me intolerant" at the GI part. Was kinda off imo.

The costa del sol sidequest where you have to pick seashells.

I actually liked the gi example. Because in such a situation where your entire ancestry is being called XYZ, asking a person if that includes you assumes the best from the other person. It's very open. And that fits her image.

The i'm dumb line didn't stand out to me enough to remember the context

I saw it. It was just a little bit chaotic to me, so i didn't reach a feeling that i agreed with.
Honestly, if that was it i think they should have pointed it out a little more by having the other characters react to her changing.

I'm sure her personality will improve in part 3.

That was at the start around the flashback, as a response to something Barret said

I don't like the way she is doing that. Saying "question", raising her hand and her tone. It makes her more childish than she actually is imo

Yes Barret said everyone who believes in news is stupid

I think that was just an awkward localization issue. Aerith IS childish, she constantly did that stuff in Remake. The OG game was more limited in what could be expressed, as it was all text. I did not feel like any character was significant changed, just more fleshed out.

Are you talking to me? What do you mean with "that stuff" lmao. Talking as if you're telling the truth

It's implied that Remake Aerith had communed with the Lifestream and somehow knew about what happened in the 1997 Final Fantasy VII. At the end of Remake, the Whispers "take" those memories - so in Rebirth, she's just as clueless as the rest of the party, which might explain why her personality seems different... she's not the same person she was in Remake, where she had a very distinct mission and already knew the characters / events as they played out.

Why would I be talking to you? My point was to the thread in general.

Hm perhaps.
I'm thinking if her putting herself in the child role isn't appropriate when speaking to a centuries old diety.

Ah that. I think that's a pretty good response to that.

Barret's might be correct about the news being shinra curated, but the way he says it is black and white, and unnuanced. Aerith's reaction immediately makes him tone it down. So i think it's a good reaction when dealing with someone who is speaking in black and white.

However, i do think remake Aerith would respond more comforting.

Its not about what she says. It's her childish way again.

Imo Remake Aerith would be more sassy
