Now that brings back memories...the opening opera scene where people start catching fire was one of my favorites :D. I'd 100% back a remake right along with Legend of Dragoon and FF6
Sakaguchi has said he wants to make a successor to ff6... We will see if he does or if he retires after Fantasian
The Remake Director was the guy who worked on PE. PE would probably actually run well in the game engine. However the Director is the problem. This guy is a geek who ruins the flow of the story by inserting convoluted story elements ala Discount Kojima right before he spoils a scene because he read how people took it on the internet and wanted to include that.
I love PE.... I want PE.... I don't want this Director touching PE.
People like nomura were important team members (for example Sakaguchi created the character of aya brea and nomura drew her) but without their leader the games have gotten totally different.
I dont like kingdom hearts at all, but at least that series is Nomuras own original creation, so he can do whatever he wants with it. Tasking him and the others to take over or remake/reboot games they didn't create in the first place is a serious problem especially because their artistic vision is different and now Square enix is trying to socially engineer their entire catalog it seems
Yeah, thing is, Takahashi is with Monolith, which is owned by Nintendo and they are really where the "Xeno" series is at. Probably never will happen, but it would be great if SE and Nintendo collaborated and completed the Xenogears series (as well as Namco for Xenosaga) and/or sold the rights to Monolith/Nintendo.
I think the synergy he had with other talented individuals made special games, and Sakaguchi was great at taking the helm and steering the team to right direction.
I think after 20+ years, I think we can see where the talent of these people lies.
Tetsuya Takashi is best suited as visionary, who needs someone to keep him grounded.
Soraya Saga is the best writer Square ever had.
Tetsuya Nomura is best suited for visual directing and character design.
Kazushige Nojima is best suited as sub writer, who writes based on other people's material and guidance.
Yoshinori Kitase is best suited as director and event planner, and is awful producer.
Motomo Toriyama is just worthless.
Yatsumi Matsuno is opposite of Motomo Toriyama, and is best when he is working as sole decision maker.
When these people (except for Matsuno, he just need people to just let him work and stay out of his way, something Sakaguchi did very well) is working under Sakaguchi and following his instructions, that's when the magic happened.
The problem with current Square is that too many people with talent left, and the ones remaining are in too high of a position that is not suited for their talent.
Fantasian is supposed to be good.
Of course though you could attribute part of why later stuff by him without the rest of his old team was not as good as original square games by him is that the drama with the movie etc took a toll on him and his creative drive and inspiration.
But yeah him leading with these guys as the team members was the secret sauce. Honestly I'm just grateful we got those good games in the first place. Nothing good on earth lasts forever here ... Just wish they weren't milking and messing up these old stories so much...
