I had actually wondered when I very first heard him why he spoke the way he did, yet he's a teenager that was taken away from his home, had awful things done to him and after he gets out, he's totally alone, so he's pretended to be something else, so that they wouldn't treat him like Yuffie.

Yuffie is the most annoying character. The voice of the voice actor in this makes one want to stab a dull rusty spoon into one's ear.

Barret especially treats Yuffie like the 16 year old she is, Reds roughly the same age, he probably didn't want to be seen as a burden. I think they could have done a better job of showing why he was using the deep voice.

15 at the end of Crisis core and 16 in OG, I thought she was a bit younger than 16 it had their ages on the cd book of the og, might have raised it, just knew she was supposed to be an annoying kid.

I was so happy with the seemingly respectful experienced warrior vibes between cloud and red. And then he got downgraded to a joke character. It's a fun idea, but the result is that red is now coming across less wise and cool .

his voice goes back to normal only for a side quest that you do once you can freely travel around the world without paying anyone money to quick travel between regions besides that i believe he stays in his teen voice

I hate this change too and now I prefer avoid him, it really killed the character for me.
I could have tolerate this change on the other side ( to adult voice to child) like at some precise point or for some funny scene but not always until the end.
Really a bad choice but from SE and many others, bad taste like this is kinda "their thing".
