Dyne.. Censorship. <spoiler>
Just finished the Dyne part. What shocking censorship. I see people complain about Tifa. This is far more grevious censorship than that. Dyne is meant to jump off a cliff. Instead they magic up some Shinra soldiers to shoot at him so he still dies, just not by suicide. This is why Square lost it's edge. ♥♥♥♥ the Disney-fication of Squaresoft.

It was never censored. :steamfacepalm:
They also took away Dyne's agency and honor.

.. wat ? :D
Agreed. No balls with this game. Also cheesed about Cid.

Yeah, the Dyne change in the OG was better. I wonder how that might affect the game's rating today, though. I've a feeling they wouldn't have got that teen rating if we got to watch Dyne repeat the lines he repeated in the OG, then proceed to self-delete in 4K.

it's also just so stupid. like it's right after a fight with barret. he's taken 3000 bullets without dying.. but along come some Shinra storm troopers with some SMGs from 100 yards and somehow kill him. Not only did they lose their artistic vision, the replacement is incoherent.

i was kind of annoyed that they showed dyne in the gold saucer instead of making it a mystery. I could be wrong, but i remember in the original they made it feel as though it could of actually been barret, but in this one it just shows it was not and keeps all the suspense of whether or not it was barret
Welcome to modern gaming/storytelling.

Yeah, there was no need to soften the Dyne story. The original had a much greater impact.

yeah that's also a problem. WTF is wrong with games development these days? Just incompetence everywhere. The player should be wondering if it is Barret until the scene where Barret finds Dyne. They have to shoot their load so early, every time. All these developers need treatment for premature ejaculation.

I've already accepted that you don't need to be a SOLDIER to be superhuman compared to your typical real human. Tifa, Cid, Barret, and Yuffie have feats that would put them relativistic to lightspeed. That doesn't mean your point isn't vaild, though. It's a mistake how they switch from game play physics, to cinematic physics.

If anything, they should show them looking battle-damaged, or maybe keep a barrier materia on like most people would if they were doing combat in Gaia. You'd think it would be standard issue for all shinra troops. That way it can logic how one can go get shot or slashed so many times and keep fighting without signs of battle damage.

I think they were scared to portray a black man in that light because of modern day. Rebirth started development right in the thick of the pandemic, BLM, etc. It's not hard to see them being hesitant to risk that back when journos had more legitimacy and were crusading against any game that was deemed "problematic", like Cyberpunk. Barret's innocence being in question from the player's perspective could have invited the crazies of 2020-2021 to swoop on SE.

Hell, they already did pre-emptively:

I'd have preferred if they kept to the OG. I get they wanted to show more of Barret's mother-hen nature, but removing a bit of his anger removed a bit of poignancy that he brought to the table at Gold Saucer. When you had the likes of Kotaku and a few other journos writing articles like this, it's no wonder SE has an ethics department now and the consultants, just like CDPR after getting lambasted unreasonably.

I don't think it's that, honestly. DEI has definitely infested the game. Half the population is black. Many female mayors etc... but also plenty of bad guys are black. Thugs etc. I think it's just bad writing + they want to avoid suicide, because there has been a lot of political controversy recently about children being drawn in to suicidal ideation on instagram and tiktok etc.. so they censored themselves.

the change is mainly to show that he's indeed dead. also it's a suicide by cop

In the flashback, dyne also jumped off the cliff, yet he somehow survived (remember why barret thought he alr died?). With how the scene was depicted in ff7, audience might believe the same event might repeat (dyne survived the fall)
