Possible fix for audio sounding "low bitrate"?

I've been fiddling around for quite some time now with the issue that audio just sounds very compressed during battles and whatnot.

It seems like setting the volume sliders (except Master volume) to 1 and cranking up the volume on my headset & soundbar (both stereo) mostly fixes the muffled and compressed audio issue and boosts the "bassy" effects.

Can anyone with the same issue try that out and report back? I highly doubt it's placebo, as the soundstage sounds noticeably different.

I did see another thread about this a while back, a few people had similar issue, not sure if they solved it or not.
