This game has super annoying difficulty spikes.
I like how in FFXVI the game was consistent throughout the entire game. I absolutely hated Elden Ring. I hate aggravating games they are not fun at all. Some random side quest on this game following a stupid cactuar leads to a fight that's harder than any boss battle. I haven't had like any trouble hardly in this game, but this fight is just absolutely nuts. I have to solo like 5 of them and their dps can almost one shot me.

i just beat the game and im kicking myself for not abusing status ailments and buffs.

haste, slow, and stop are all really good.
sleep + magnify is a winning combo

Magnify is after this part
If that's how you feel I have advice for you. Don't try hard mode after you complete the game.

I'm seeing only hair spikes.

Just like the old FF's If you keep all your buffs up and a debuff or two on the enemy you can literally get hit by everything and be fine. Haste + Manawall/Protect/Shell with Magnify and whatever debuffs you want, can't be stopped

Also the synergy skills can be super strong, instead of just running around auto attacking waiting for ATB

Lot of the endgame content is harder than anything in Elden Ring. Elden Ring is just dodge>attack.

This game you gotta deal with wipe mechanics, setting up builds specific for certain fights, playing all the characters properly, etc.
I had to continually roll in order to survive that fight. Took me a good while to beat.

I figured out just triple slash and be super aggressive before they start popping off all them needles.

It's weird because in Remake I don't remember having any issues. I actually enjoyed the HM too. I don't get the difference with this game.
you just wait till they add in certain optional bosses that were insane lol but that wont be till the final installment

What does the "suggested level" say for that side quest?

it is somewhat of a spike, but it was for me a lesson the game wanted to tell me: ok, from now you got to use your brain and stop simply small hiting that stuff, use your toolset we gave you.

This game is easy all the way through if you even make the slightest effort to understand the mechanics of the game and utilize everything given to you. Most games today are literally just walking simulators masquerading as action rpg's. What's the fun in exploring a games mechanics when it doesn't have any tangible benefit. It undermines what makes a game a game. FF XVI was literally just spam X dodge spam x and use skills on a timer. Rebirth is leagues better as it has diverse playstyles with multiple characters all with there own unique mechanics. It also really walks the line really well between turn bases strategy and real time combat.
