Bottom line, no - whatever you achieved in FF7R won't be taken over unfortunately.
It is not an open world game like Red Dead Redemption 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc.
The roaming is what I call pseudo-open world, meaning that Gaia is partitioned into zones for you to explore, like Kalm region, Junon region, Corel region, etc, but they are so MASSIVE that it honestly feels like an open world game. Each area is so big that I often get overwhelmed whenever I enter a new region, but it's really fun to explore, for me at least.
I cannot think of a single game that does this because it would be incredibly game breaking. Who set the precedent so people would actually believe this was an option?
