Resolving issues with DXGI errors/crashes.
Instead of a complaint thread, I'm going to start a solution thread. Any and all helpful advice is welcome. Please post specs so we know what you're working with, and driver version for your GPU because as has been stated hundreds of times, DirectX errors are ugly and can be hard to resolve. Personally, an Intel Arc 770 paired with an AMD 7600x CPU. 32 GB RAM and Gen 4 nvme drive. Graphics driver version 32.0.101.6325. Remember that driver version because it's important.

Like most people who have seen these errors, I tried reducing graphics down to potato quality, which let the game run *better* but ultimately still crashed, sometimes after a couple of hours of playtime so I would think it was solved and beat my head on my desk when I got comfortable not saving every 3 minutes. Tweaked .ini files, downloaded some mods to use frame generation to speed it up, no resolve. Actually I noticed some really weird artifacting when using FG, white spots wherever there was movement and occasional white-outs of the entire screen when I happened to move the camera too fast. I digress, I downloaded the new intel driver that sped up the game for B-series intel cards, but frankly it did nothing for A-series GPU's so I wasn't hopeful.

The fix? As everyone keeps saying, DDU to remove all GPU drivers from your system, and on a whim I downloaded an older WHQL certified driver that I planned to roll back to anyway because it broke some of my older games when I updated. I removed ALL my tweaks and mods after testing it for 5 hours straight to be sure it was fixed, because I didn't want there to be any confusion about what actually fixed it. I'm running the game on absolutely maximum settings with occasional pop-in that I don't really care about and a few dropped frames that again, I don't care about, because my game isn't crashing anymore. I ran through all the first two-hour cutscenes that everyone gets hung on, errored out on, crashed on, etc and has to skip, in one sitting. Did it again with Frame Generation mods running, worked just as well.

My advice is you don't have to use the latest driver for your GPU, but you do have to experiment with them to see if you can find one that plays well with this game. Is it ideal? No, but neither is constantly crashing. Hope this helps someone.

The dll replacement helped me.

After the replacement, there was never a dxgi_error_device error.
I've been playing without crash for 4 hours now, before that it crashed every 15-20 minutes.

I'll definitely look into it. I am using an NVME drive so it's quite possible the pop-in is caused by the older dll files.
My game works quite well with a Ryzen 3100, RTX 4060 at 1080p DLAA 4 (all settings high except Textures and Fog). But I'm getting random crashes as well.

I'm on driver 566.45. I'll try out the Direct X Storage thing and see if it changes anything.

What seems to be working for me is lowering my GPU usage by capping my FPS, to the point it never hits 100% usage.

Every time I've crashed, my 7900xtx was hitting 100% usage on 4k Ultra. On 2k Ultra, playing at 120 fps but capping manually at 90 fps, I've had a multi hour session without a crash for once. Using the latest optional drivers.
With your crashes, are they the DXGI crashes like Device Removed or Device Hung, or are they more general soft locks and force closes?

Says Device Removed for me

Try the DLL fix, clear the shader cache, and send it. If that fails, try rolling back to a driver released near the beginning of December. I know it's legwork and it's janky, but baby step fixes give us a base for fixing it for everyone.

Edit: I read your post history so I know what you're up against. A 2060 and a ton of troubleshooting already knocked out. Have you tried rolling back the drivers? There's no reason it simply shouldn't work.

I only encountered this issue when i had a browser running on a second display with hardware acceleration enabled. Youtube was running on firefox when it happened to me a few times. I assume driver quirks - I'm using the last studio drivers on a 4090.
what got the game to work for me after hours of troubleshooting was to swap from hdmi to Display port and run it on the lowest settings. idk why it works but havent had a crash since.
got an rx 7600 and a ryzen 5 7600 with the optional drivers installed. game looks like dookie but it plays

Excellent information. Would you be willing to test those fixes individually and see which one worked? I'm also seeing reports that using driver version 24.9.1 for AMD cards has cleared up all of the shenanigans and made the game playable at high settings.

Even with the new update? It updated the directstorage version and should be fixed now.
