how important is playing FF7 OG ps1 ver before this?
i already played the remake part 1. but i feel like i might lose some good moments in rebirth without seeing more of the og first before this one..... i know that this is sorta like a sequel. plz no spoilers

so... will i miss out much? i will probably finish playing og 7... someday in the future, i just kinda want to play rebirth NOW. the switch port of og 7 pisses me off with its 15-30 fps and i dont really want to play it on pc/start over (only put in few hrs tho, im before the plate fall)

you dont need to play the original to enjoy the remakes

This series is a direct sequel to the original FF7. This is a continuation.

The most important thing to understand is that the new games are actually sequels, not remakes or remasters. There's a lot you're not going to understand or appreciate by having not played the original titles, unfortunately. Can you enjoy the remakes on their own merits? Absolutely, but I think it's knowing how things were supposed to play out and seeing the divergence that really elevates these games.

Especially with Part 2. You don't even know who Zack is or what his role in the series was, so you have no reason to be excited about seeing him. He's just another character to you.

Only my opinion here but I do think FF7 Remake/Rebirth lose a lot of their power if you don't know anything about OG FF7.

If you did enjoy FF7 remake, then you will probably enjoy Rebirth too, but there are so many moments that can have a VERY different impact if you know the OG game (for example,
Cloud crying without even knowing why when he sees Aerith waiting for him in FF 7 remake).

FF7 Remake and Rebirth (As far as I can tell) are taking a "different" route though, it's not exactly the same story as OG with new graphics.

Which is why OG FF7 is still worth it (best way to play it today on PC would be through Duckstation, with the Original Playstation iso).

Others would probably tell you that it doesn't matter but to me, playing Remake and Rebirth without knowing OG FF7 is a big loss in many ways.

That said, I can understand why you don't want to wait. If you are planning on playing OG FF7 at some point, I'd say just enjoy Rebirth (especially since you've already played Remake) and see if you feel like playing OG FF7 afterwards.

Enjoy yourself

these games are not sequels they are remakes, same story told differently you do not need to know anything about the original to enjoy or play the remake

not really important i think you can paly Remake and then Rebirth because if you played the original FF7 Ps1 game then you know already what is going to happen in the most time and if you are new to this then you can be happy because the story is not known by you already.

They absolutely are sequels.

My English sucks sadly but you've said exactly what I wanted to say.
Agree 100%
Playing the og completely ruins the enjoyment of remake and rebirth
you don't need to play the original, but if you do it will give you some insight on what is different and what new stuff is going on. the real question is do you want to experience ff7 in the old graphics or 4k first
not necessary at all IMO! I think there is some value in playing both, but the original is VERY different in all aspects. if you like old-school rpg's the ATB and materia system alone make it the best of that genre.
While you dont NEED to play the original. The fact that the story is a literal direct sequel to it is probably a good idea. You wouldnt start watching the Matrix films from Reloaded.

You should play both! OG Final Fantasy VII is one of my favourite games and it's a must play if you like a good story and world. With that being said you definitely don't need to play it to enjoy remake and rebirth. However a great deal of appeal is seeing how the developers have displayed the classic in a new light. What you will find however is that the OG game naturally has a better flow as a consequence of not being split up into 3 parts. Both rebirth and remake add a lot of padding which doesn't really add much in a hollistic sense. I think you will enjoy the story just as much (and maybe even more) by playing the original. People say that these games are sequels. I would have to disagree. I would consider these as a remake but with the nuance that they play on the expectations and knowledge of fans of the OG so have a bit of 4th wall story telling. Does this add a lot and would not having played the OG mean you miss something ? Not really in my opinion. What I would reiterate is that it doesn't matter but do give the OG another chance.
I would recommend the original first. You get a lot more emotional mileage out of the remakes if you know the whole story.

thanks for yalls input. as i said, i do see this as a sequel too already. i will probably play the og first, or do some sort of a hybrid run where i play a bit of the OG and then rebirth to compare lol
