FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH

Compared to the old PS1 FFVII ?
How is the combat and especialy the equip / upgrading players weapons / gathering summons compared to the old PS1 game?
I like the old VII for it complex magic/equip system - finding rare summons or orbs.

Not that far in, but as an OG FF7 lover this game is amazing. Still in Kalm rn

Game has been out for a year on ps5, you can easily find how it plays and how customizable everything is
Let me school you kids. this comes nowhere close to the PS1 verision and ill explain. Back in the day we had theses thing called "CRT TV's" rained supreme where Mario and duck hunt live! When you said good by to Mario and that elusive dog screamingly mocking you every time you missed. and went to the Sony Play Station Entertainment System. You knew you were on a hole new level of gaming. with its almost realistic 3D world and square Barrett calling you a hole new kinda of stupid. Those where the days.
Any way what im trying to say is that this game is alot of fun but nothing can beat that absolutely mind boggling leap in gaming. maybe one day kids

Have you not played remake?

Characters can equip different weapons, armor (bangles) and accessories. The weapons and armor have materia slots, and just as in the original game you can equip materia you find or purchase in those slots to get different spells and abilities. The materia levels as you play, unlocking more powerful spells. You have a dedicated summon slot for each character.

Each character has 7 weapons, I believe, but they aren't strictly upgrades to each other. Each one has different strengths and weaknesses.

It's still very similar--you can still find materia, weapons, and armor around the world and "socket" the materia into your gear slots. However, keep in mind that this game is pretty much the middle 1/3 of the game, so the ultra-powerful, end game stuff isn't really in here yet (I'm hoping for Knights of the Round in part 3!!!)

Also, combat is no longer turn based but (imo) it feels more interactive and more fun this way. It felt weird at first for me, but then I realized that the real-time action made the fights more immersive and less tiresome.

Completely different. The equipment and materia is similar, but the combat is much different, although the names of everything are familiar. The combat is good, I liked it in remake.

But it's better than Remake, that's for sure.

I often say that people should view Remake/Rebirth and the OG FF7 as completely different games that just have the same characters and story. The mechanics are VERY different. To be clear, I loved the OG and wanted an actual 'remake', IE same game, just pretty. Square did not deliver that, which disappointed the hell out of me. But then I played the Remake demo (btw, play that first if you're curious if you'll like it), then the Remake, then Rebirth, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. But I had to stop expecting it to be like the OG game mechanically in order for me to do so.

I'm pretty early in and so can't comment on the upgrading weapons, yet, though I heard its an improvement over Remake's already good weapon system.

However, combat was immediately rather impressive. They took Remake's combat and definitely overhauled it in a positive more action oriented yet tactical way. Cloud has actual combos with various uses from his basic attack (not just ATB commands) plus he can chain his abilities (ATB commands) with them in various ways like Braver after doing a dodge Aerial combo gain dmg for being higher up. In addition, you can actually use abilities airborn here unlike Remake. Just off his basic combos Cloud has something like 5-6 different types of techniques he can perform.

Sephiroth had a lot of depth, too, but I actually liked Cloud's more other than Sephiroth's slick teleport.
There are plenty of reviews and video reviews. This game has been out for over a year and the first game has been out for a few years now. Why don't you just go look at one or ten?

@Thanks for the guys who put in a proper answer.

Nice to see that you still need to think about the equip/weapon/materia system.
I played alot FF titles but with the ages it became to much arcade fight and it felt more like watching a movie. Thats why i wanted some answers from players who played both titles.

@everyone else

Yes i can google it up but i made a post cause its not that much important to be answered in few second.

Why you even put in effortt trying to answer my question but badly failed with providing a correct answer or information about the question?

It's a vastly different game, some people may like this one even though the hate the OG game and vice versa.
There's a bunch of questionable choices though, and some systems were better in the first remake than this one imo.

Materia system was better in OG as well for me, it feels like they're trying to limit OP combos as much as they can.

As a huge fan of the original, I still think Rebirth is better just by virtue of the production values and resulting depth. Weapons, equipment and materia leveling still work mostly the same way, though mastering materia no longer births a new one (which I really miss!) Rare materia will still be found from exploration, but summons and another fair portion are rewards from battle challenges. The system has much more action added to appease what Square thinks this generation wants, but ATB charges still accrue, so underneath it all is all the depth and strategy of the original - perhaps more - and I found it very satisfying, even though I prefer turn-based combat and wanted it to go in that direction personally.

But they put so much work into designing unique battles, challenges, and optional bosses, that it actually ended up with WAY more depth and unique battles than the OG. I feel if they put that much effort into real turn-based it could have been just as good... but for the direction they went I'd say it was a good compromise, and I'd even go so far as to say it's the best combat system Final Fantasy ever had just by virtue of the work and polish, and the series might be well-served sticking with it going forward. Though I'd love to see turn-based again... may have to go to Clair Obscure Expedition 33, Persona, Metaphor etc. to scratch that itch.
