i just pressed random buttons for a few minutes then barret started praising me as if i was playing mozart or somethin

It's not like an actual side quest, I just searched for someone doing it and then copied the notes to play lol. I'm not sure if it's an actual music score in the game.

Me too! I even went to the door to Tifa's house, but I was unable to open it each time. Oh well, I'll get it the next time I start a new playthrough.

I think you needed to go up the water tower first so it becomes available

You didn't miss much. Playing the piano during the flashback in Rebirth offers no rewards and there are no challenges/minigames associated with it. It is purely there to be used as a music maker.

All you miss out on is some throwaway narration. The other party members are surprised when you first approach the piano, and they praise your playing skills when you exit out of it.

I miss the part of the demo that let you play Tifa's theme during that segment. I know you can do it later, but it would've been fun to mess around with before getting the first real piano segment in chapter 4 lol
