Do I need to finish the first one?
I'm near the end of the first one. Do I need to finish it or can I just get the ending from youtube? Will I be porting over information?

Thanks for the help.

Dude, the first game is 5 hours of the original dragged out to 50 hours.

Yeah, you kinda need to play it to get the characters and general "story" but it's absolutely not worth it. Just play the OG game if you're okay with graphics from 1997 and you'll experience the full story in 20-25 hours with little to no filler content. FF7R is 90% filler fetch quests. Terrible modern day adaptation.

You can just watch the ending. Only two things that can carry over are two summoning materia
Yes, it’s like lord of the rings.

Nothing carries over, you get a couple bonus materia for having a save from the prior game, but it doesn't care how close to the end of the game you are, just that you have it.

If you know how it ends or have seen the ending on Youtube, then you're fine just jumping striaght to RB, you won't lose anything

You may as well finish Remake. I liked Remake, its ending included. At the same time I do not think it is very replay friendly at all. Do it now or you might never.

As already mentioned you do get bonuses for having Remake and Intermission DLC save data on your PC, however nothing specific about your saves carry over. It can be an early game save or a complete save game; it doesn't make a difference. The game only cares whether you have the data at all.

i have the game on epic and sadly the save is not being seen from Steam. Waiting on a friend who has the steam version and going to ask if she can send me her save. Since it's all I need to gain the 2 summon materia

the end is the best part, so if you skip it you are losing out on some of the most adrenaline fueled combat and content the series has to offer. just kick back and enjoy it, you only get your first play once

This has a video at the start that summarizes the story so far.
