Was just going to make a thread myself to see if others had this issue.
Only cutscenes seem to be properly playing back spacial audio formats. The rest of the game seems to only support or at least is only playing back 2ch regardless of settings/setup.
I did find that upsampling from 2ch with DTS neural X worked. At least if you want a more consistent experience. However that obviously wont be the same as true Atmos/DTS X. But it will use your center channel properly.
Hopefully this is something that gets patched. I can't imagine it is supposed to be that way. At least that would be a first for me seeing a case like this.
Hell, I came to this forum because I thought the audio sounded quite poor even with my 2.0 setup. The mixing is really bad and a lot of dialogue and soundfx sounds poor/muffled.
Yes I have both.
But center speaker works for me, besides volume is too low usually.
Currently I have set my receiver to use upmixed stereo to get a almost usuable constant volume ranges but that loses correct positioning of sounds front/rear.
As for the video scenes working for people, thats usually because videos have hard encoded multi channel formats while game engines itself most times outputs uncompressed channels depending on your windows settings. Of course some people might have set their windows format to DTS etc. I usually avoid those.
I find this to be the best solution as well currently. DTS NEURAL X works pretty well if you have a receiver that supports it.
Side note: For anyone having other types of issues with surround in windows, make sure you select 5.1/7.1 etc in your audio settings. Either way, Rebirth just sounds flat.
Edit: I just re-downloaded Rebirth on PS5 Pro, and the soundstage sounds WAY better. Full bass and everything.
