it doesn't matter what label you want to give it, it's wrong and the only people you're stealing from is paying customers.
what if you steal a Porsche and drive it , it's copyright infringement maybe? You're dumb af.
Piracy isnt stealing ur porsche that u paid for, its me making a copy of ur porsche which is identical 1:1 and driving away for free while ur orignal porsche still stays in ur garage.
"Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth had a fantastic Steam launch. Across physical & tracked digital, Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth was the best-selling game of the week ending Jan 25th in the US market ($ sales), while the FFVII Remake & Rebirth Twin Pack ranked 3rd. Source: Circana Retail Tracking Service"
Good games sell.
Draconian DRM doesn't make money magically appear into pirates' pockets and Square Enix knows it well, they have a long history of publishing on PC and they have had the opportunity to evaluate the performance of custom DRM solutions on PC.
It hurts game preservation, it hurts customers, costs a lot of money and It's not worth it.
That is not how it works.
People don't go through the hassle to pirate a game because they don't want to pay, they either do because they literally don't have the disposable income to pay or they don't think the product is worth buying.
In other words: Would there be no other source of the product, the product would basically sell the same beside a few low single digit exceptions - however it would have less buzz around it, less word of mouth which actually generates additional sales if the product is any good.
FF7 on PC was never good, it was decent at best. There is a ton of issues with this game from the fact that both games were super lazy ports doing the bare minimum while dumping the game for full price instead of 10 bucks when considering the put in effort. Additionally the game itself has serious design flaws - the minigames are repetitive and often boring/annyoing, and again since those where made for consoles they don't feel good on PC; quite the opposite. Yes, the game is throwing around a lot of assets but gameplay wise it doesn't bring a lot new innovations, it's pretty much more of the same comparing it to Remake but it feels even less polished even though Remake was super rough to begin with.
If paying is optional does that make us donors instead of customers? Piracy the difference between a paying customer vs someone who is donating out of the kindness of their heart?
