Generally when a game fails to save it means it cannot access the location where to create the save file so its something on your PC.
If your autosave isn’t working it might be due to windows defender blocking access to the save folder.
Try this:
1 - Open windows security
2 - Go to 'virus & threat protection''→ Manage ransomware protection
3 - Click on Allow an app through Controlled folder access
4 - Add the game’s executable file (you can find it in the installation folder, usually in Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH).
The solution that worked for me was to take an empty save file (ff7remake009) from my copy of FF7 remake and the "ff7remakecommon" and "ff7remakedevice" files. I renamed them to "ff7rebirthcommon" "ff7rebirthdevice" and duplicated the remake save file 9 times so that I had 10 save slots. I renamed these so that I had "ff7rebirth000" through to "ff7rebirth009". The game appears to be saving normally now.
That is seriously annoying.... sigh
Been waiting since the PS5 launch to play this game, and not being able to save is killing me.
