The game is using an extremely outdated version of Direct Storage (1.1.1) AlbertX in another thread discovered that by replacing the DLL's running direct storage with those of final fantasy 16 (version 1.2.2) seems to have worked to fix the texture pop and the soft locking issue!

Don't have ff16? Not to worry - you can download the files direct from microsoft.

1. Go to https://www.nuget.org/packages/Microsoft.Direct3D.DirectStorage/
2. Click "Download package" to download the .nupkg file.
3. Extract it. To do so, you can rename in to .zip or use 7zip or something like that.
4. Find the 2 DirectStorage DLL files in the extracted files. For most people it will be the x64 versions, so the 2 DLL files in native\bin\x64.
5. Go to your FF7 install directory and find the 2 DIrectStorage DLL files there, probably under End\Binaries\Win64,e .g C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH\.
6. Replace the DIrectStorage DLLs in your game directory (step 5) with the newer DLLs from Nuget (step 4).

This would also explain why users with nvme drivers were experiencing issues where those with SSD's or windows 10 were not.

Had this happen twice now specifically around cutscenes or scripted scenes that just fail or freeze the game entirely.

The first was with sephiroth and cloud in the back of the truck. Cloud's outfit failed to load properly leading to smeared textures on him. Camera changed to outside the truck with the rain and....nothing. Game would not progress forward at all.

Second was in Nibelheim, door textures were glitched leading to being able ot see through doors like they were "shattered". Approaching one would attempt to trigger a scripted scene but ended up removing all control from the player for the duration of the scene. Loading the menu resulted in a black screen and soft lock.

Files have validated successfully
Rig specs are
CPU: 9800x3d
GPU: 4090
Ram: 96GB
Storage: Samsung 990 PRO 4tb NVME
OS: Windows 11 24H2

Temps are all green, memory usage is not an issue, so I'm not sure what is causing this. Anyone else seeing behavior like this?

Another fix from another thread. User who posted it's name is there (AlbertX) (Please note I did not test the link, that would be on you. I installed FF16 and did what he said. So far so good):

And then I plaayed for a couple of hours without issues and I also blieve it loads the games faster.

1. At the part where Tifa started leading Cloud and Sephiroth towards the reactor with the opening credits no more progress and people stood still had to close out game restart at the scene with the opening credits and everything rolling again

2. second time I had to stop playing I pause the game after first rest area after Seph joins your party stay in a black screen and had to force close the game again

Apparently there's a script sequence supposed to happen in nibleheim that the game is hiccuping on. 90 minutes in and it's all been me going back and having to replay the same segments because of these soft locks.
I give up, I can't play, every few minutes this happens, textures and events stop happening and when I open the menu, a black screen

Day on erelease unplayable again....

Textures stop loading when you pause the game you geta black screen !

Need to restart th egame and reload your save and then maybe you can get further...

Happeninig over and over again ...

Such a shame becaus eit is such a good game !!

Wonder how long until they fix this !

It's Square Enix, probably won't do anything about it.

They made the port with graphics and visuals in mind and sacrificed everything else. Heck, even the dudes who made Black Myth Wukong added compatibility mode for older hardware and it's they're first have, SE must be getting some sweet Nvidia money
I am losing textures and sound and eventually the game soft locks. I was then fighting the boss in the factory and the game paused and eventually just exited out. Not a great start.

9800x3d, gen4 nvme m.2 drive install, rtx3800 with latest drivers.
Having the same problem i also have a Samsung 990 pro 2TB
Same thing here, textures stop loading in, then my map stops loading, then trying to go to menu gives black screen and soft lock. For me it only started happening when I got to the open world. Hopefully there is a patch soon, also probably wouldn't hurt if Nvidia released a driver update. I know they are prepping for 5000 series but not having a driver update in over 6 weeks is a bit odd
Same issue here. I have a 12GB card playing at 1440p 90fps lock and after about 40 mins or so, this starts to happen. I'm thinking it could be a the fact that the VRAM is all used up. I even have texture detail set to medium as if I didn't, the issue would happen sooner I feel.
I'm also getting black infinite load screens. For me its right at the beginning when aerith dies in zacks arms. I tried twice and both times it was in the exact same spot. Which really sucks bc i was really looking forward to playing this. Come on SE did you even play test this at all?? How are this many people having issues???


EDIT: Ok so it turns out those infinite loading black sceens I was getting were in fact loading, they were just being REALLY REALLY slow about it. Like, time enough for me to go to the bathroom AND throw a load of laundry in the wash. Like it was about 10-15 minutes no lie. But it did load all the same.

Same issue, so far no resolution. Softlock is imminent when texture glitches occur (some meshes load on lower LOD without proper textures), saving the game then is typically not possible due to opening the menu resulting in black screen soft lock.

Playtime varies between 5 - 45 minutes before the issue occurs.

I noticed other issues as well. During the Nibelheim flashback Cloud stepped onto the box holding the autocast materia. Game kept running but progress was no longer possible as Cloud couldn't get off that box.

Running on 9700K, 32GB RAM, RTX4090, NVME.

Urgent fix required!
I also notice that characters and assets just start to fail in general when it happens. Characters stop speaking, audio no longer plays....it's becoming stranger and stranger.

I mean they have to find and fix it first lol.. many people myself included have no issues so its some configuration circumstance that causes it i guess.
Same issue. Floating textures, model and terrain breaks, sudden invisible walls in the middle of the road. Go to the menu to reload > blackscreen softlock. Music is nice though.
