Forgive me for being dumb, but how would you know the difference between the download and the diskspace? Previous experience?
I never even considered there'd be a difference between the download and diskspace, but of course there would be! Thanks, chaps! You just saved me a chunk of time off my estimated download time.

when downloading a game, go to manage downloads at the bottom center of steam page, then you will see both downloading and unpacking, the graph you see also shows your download speed (green) and your disk writing speed (blue)

i got it mixed up, it should be: internet speed blue and disk speed green

Why people want preload so bad? It's not like the game will run away. Even if it takes a week to download in 3rd world countries, the game will be there waiting to be played. I really don't understand this anxiety.

Some people are useful members of society. AKA they work. So every minute is precious, wasting it in download time when they could be playing can make people anxious I imagine.

Yeah but it's not like they can't wait till next weekend for example, the game will still be there. I really don't understand why people want so bad play on launch day.

there are people who take some time off just to enjoy their favourite games + we already waited a year lmao

That's jsut stupid trend among gamers, it has zero practical sense so developers do not bother with preload usually, which I compeletely agree with.

You can on consoles but it seems like certain publishers such as Square-Enix don't like to do this on Steam for some reason. Maybe they are paranoid about people cracking the game before it releases? I can't think why else they would do this on console but not PC.
