I have a bad feeling that I lost so many goodies and bonuses.
Did you pre-order the Final Fantasy games like X/X-2, XIII or VIII on Steam before they were released here?
ChatGBT says:
"For Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on Steam, the soundtrack (OST) was originally offered as a pre-order bonus. It was not automatically included with the standard edition of the game, and players who purchased the game during the pre-order period received a free copy of the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster Soundtrack.
However, after the release of the game, Square Enix made the soundtrack available as DLC for purchase on Steam. This means that even if you didn't pre-order, you could still buy the OST separately from the Steam store.
So, to clarify:
Pre-order bonus: The OST was included with pre-orders.
Post-release: The OST is available for purchase as downloadable content (DLC).
If you already own the game and are interested in the soundtrack, you can still purchase it through the Steam store."
I can't find the soundtrack of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on Steam. So it must be in game.
This is why I bother you with questions.
World of Final Fantasy didn’t have a true preorder bonus, but it had a Day One Edition that you could only buy for when the game was first for sale, I think it was a couple of weeks. Part of the reason that this happened was because it was still relatively new, and they also knew that they could get away with selling the Maxima (Switch version) upgrade as DLC, so they did.
The Pixel Remaster games, oddly enough, came out on PC (and mobile) first, and came out on consoles later, so yeah, as a brand new release, absolutely they could justify preorder bonuses. PlayStation second with these games was pretty strange.
I think Final Fantasy XVI is the first one that’s actually a bit of an anomaly. You can argue that it was still relatively fresh, like World of Final Fantasy, but there was no alternative version like Maxima to consider, and all the DLC was already out. I think it should have come out complete in box, but it is what it is.
But yeah, moving forward, it’s likely that we’ll see PlayStation and PC, maybe even Xbox and Switch, releases all at once like many other publishers do things, and so we won’t have all the content available, there will be preorder bonuses as well as season passes, because that’s just the norm anymore.
