I'm confused over the FF7 'Remake/Rebirth' Games
After seeing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as an upcoming game, I was bewildered since Square Enix already made a remake of the original FF7. The remake, while nowhere near as masterful as the OG, was still a fun experience, though I don't really see the need to make another one. Then I was looking at the Steam Store page and it seemed like a re-imagining of the original game, yet it has new content, but is a sequel to FF7 Remake. I don't know, it was so confusing. Then I found out about another Final Fantasy game that served as a successor to FF7R. I dunno, this whole situation is so confusing to me. Can anybody explain to my early-adult primitive monkey brain about these Remake(s?)

OG FFVII game is getting a remake, devided into 3 games :

FFVII Remake
FFVII Rebirth
FFVII Re??? (not released yet)

Thats all you need to know. Rebirth takes place after remake, its a sequel, a "part 2" out of 3 parts

edit : I've not played the second one yet but I'm pretty sure i've heard second game is called "rebirth" is because its not 100% a remake of the OG FFVII game but more of a sequel disguised as a Remake, with a totally new story. Correct me if i'm wrong

The Remake was always stated to be a trilogy of games.

The first game didn't even cover put a portion of the first disc of the original game.

Thats not 100% true, although they have said it was going to be in multiple part, they never stated it was suppose to be a trilogy. Remake was actually made so it could be a standalone since it was possible they wouldnt release any sequel in case it didnt sell enough (was said in some interview a long time ago). iirc, the first time they said the game would be a trilogy is when Rebirth was anounced.

It was said from the beginning that there would be 3 parts. they couldn't have stopped at the remake, Ff7 is a legendary game that everyone was talking about.... and awaited for 10 years. I think that the last part (part 3) has a lot of surprises in store for us...

Before the release of the remake there were people who said that Midgar would be gigantic in the open world and that the dev wanted to play several games (4, 5) and that the game would last for 10 or 15 years... but from the first part we saw that it was false and that it was a "corridor" remake

so there are 3 Canon games Final Fantasy 7: Remake, Rebirth, and another for 2026 2027

remake is midgar, rebirth is midgar to city of the ancients, and the unannounced 3rd game will take us all the way to the end

Part 3 will be a rush if all that is packed in.

nah. if you think back to the original, disc 1 was about 66% of the game. all that is left after it as a few big events and then you spent a lot of time doing side content like getting a chocobo, knights of the round, and fighting the weapons.

i think those things will be made part of the main story this time for the most part, and then they will also add in a bunch of side content like they did in rebirth, but the side content will likely have a different vibe. instead of a happy globetrotting adventure, now we are pissed off and on a mission to gain power to make things right

yep almost the whole map is done... I would like Aerith to be resurrected and that we can fight with her at some point but I doubt ...mais the Final fight against the fallen angel sephiroth with the white wings and his ultimate Super Nova attack should be magnificent

Sure, you go ahead and believe that. It doesn't make any sense at all since it's literally a recreation of the original game and it was not complete. Period. Whatever nonsensical argument you come up with does not change this fact.

FF7 Remake was a proof of concept to see if they would do a full remake. Square was pretty upfront about it when Remake was announced. It was never going to be the full OG FF7 in a single game.
