So how are PC players feeling about these release wait times?
I'm wanting to pick up this series, but it's bugged me from the start to think I'd be playing a 3 part cliffhanger trilogy, and not only will I have to wait 1 or more years for the trilogy to be completed, I'll also have to wait potentially another year or more for the PC release while the internet gets flooded with console players/youtubers talking about the final part.

I'm not buying a PS5 just to get around timed console exclusivity. That whole thing makes me want to not even give SE any money for the series, or at minimum wait the requisite years to see it price drop by 60%+.

Still kind of want to play it though. I only ever made it to just past the Gold Saucer in the original game and don't really have the patience to go back and play through the original now. I still love FF7 for whatever reason though, so it's hard to ignore.

Part 3 will likely be same day PC release. We already have Square Enix outright saying they've realized exclusivity is bad for their bottom line and we didn't have to wait an extra year for Epic exclusivity with Rebirth.

That's interesting. Speculative, but almost makes me think ignoring timed console exclusives is having a desired effect. If they did release a statement indicating that part 3 will be released on all platforms day 1, I'd gladly buy the deluxe twin pack for both games right now.

Still, maybe they're only going to pass on storefront exclusives like Epic, but still want the huge pile of cash I can only assume Sony is giving them for PS5?

yeah everything points to day 1 pc release for the last title, looks like we won that battle finally

as far as the wait between games, it’s honestly been pretty fun. the point of the cliffhanger is to generate conversation and theories and debate, and getting in on figuring all that out with the rest of the fans has been really hype. you’re missing out

we can’t have ff7 retold in this fidelity and expanded detail and have it all be in a single title, so i will gladly take a few years between them. we’re almost at the end now and i am a little worried about what i am going to replace this hype with when it is over

I hope so.

Asked if future Final Fantasy games may see a day-one release, Takai says "I think it's possible – probably even likely," before adding, "That said, the team in charge of each project gets to decide its own policy, so this is just my personal opinion."

You all seem pretty confident in this shift from SE. Hopefully it does work out that way.

That said, don't you lose out on all that conversation and theorizing when you have to wait a year? By the time PC players get the game, all that discussion is old news, no? Unless you're playing on console and then rebuying on PC.

Looking at this, they did say this later in the article:

"Naturally, we wanted to get the PC version into players' hands as quickly as we possibly could," he says. "We don't get anything out of delaying its release either. That said, I don't think there's much more we could have done to speed up the porting process. Looking at the results, I think the time we've put into optimizing the game for PC was time well spent."

So they're pretty much claiming that the delay for PC is inevitably the time it takes to optimize for PC, implying that a day 1 release on all platforms just means a delay for all platforms? Don't get me wrong, I definitely see what looks like a desire to stop the timed exclusivity, but they seem to be hedging a lot here. Saying what people want to hear without making any commitment.

same as i always expect from sony(or is the semantic playstation?) exclusives, its just an excuse to double dip.

its a shame, but people fall for it, and thats why they do it

PC porting took long because contract with Sony probably didnt allow them to make version for both platform at the same time while for day one multiplatform releases usually both versions are being worked at the same time.

So if they no longer have exclusive contracts then both version will be worked on at the same time and released at same time cause it makes no sense to delay game for one platform if there is no timed exclusivity contract.

i have been buying on console before pc for both remake and rebirth, but trust me, the theorizing will be still going wild right up until game 3 comes out. especially when the trailers for it start coming out

I doubt it. They didn't make enough on both FFVII Rebirth and FFXVI, both time exclusives. Sony may drop a large bag immediately, but if they can't make enough money regardless, then why not open it up day one to the largest gaming platform on PC, and potentially even Xbox?

I can see why Square would do PS5 first. Just to beta test the game for issues. Not to mention, more people have a PS5 than those on steam that can meet the PC recommended requirements.

Even if Remake and rebirth came out day one that is still a 7-9 year wait to finish the trilogy

I am just angry that we wait all this time and then get some of the worst PC ports of all time

i've been wanting to replay FF7 remake on PS4 to prepare for rebirth but then i remember the PS4 version doesnt have the DLC which immediately kills my desire to replay it

Not like I have a choice when "ignoring", I aint buying a console for one game because itd be a waste of money I wouldnt wanna afford
