There's no certainty but SE usually show it on the store page if they use it.

Are people under the mistaken impression Valve doesn't provide DRM? Denuvo is just particularly aggressive DRM.

Steam IS DRM, which is why this entire conversation is pointless, and always has been. I have no idea how many times ive explained to others how Steam itself, is not only DRM, but also a third party at ALL TIMES, with the exception of Dota2 and Artifact, you know, games Valve made.

Its pretty annoying constantly trying to explain this to a wall, so I simply gave up at this point, because no logical reason or explanation, will appease that side of the crowd. They are looking for things to complain about.

For those that somehow dont know, the reason Steam is DRM, is because you cant run most games, without Steam running in the background. Most games, simply wont launch when steam isnt running. That is by definition, DRM.

A) Steam is not inherently DRM. As you pointed out, while most games require Steam to run, a large number of them also don't require that, and are portable programs after they're downloaded.

B) Steam is not server dependent. Unlike Denuvo, even if a game requires Steam, if that's the only level of DRM that it has, you can put the Steam client into Offline Mode and literally copy and paste the entire installation and any games that use only it as DRM to any offline machines that you want to, and everything will work forever. Denuvo can flip a switch on their end and stop your game from working tomorrow.

If you cant run a game without steam running, its DRM. End of story.

Oh, and steam can also flip a switch and prevent you from accessing your entire library. Not just a single game.

Before you try to strawman btw, its the exact same thing as Denuvo CAN do, but dont. Steam CAN shut down your entire account, but is unlikely to. Denuvo CAN shut you down, blah blah blah.

You're right, but people love wasting their time talking about ♥♥♥♥ to try derail a topic. Denuvo is way worse and that's it.

Steam is acceptable DRM, Denuvo isn't. Denuvo ties a game to a server, Steam doesn't. Which leads me to point out...

...that this doesn't matter. If you have the files downloaded, even if Valve were to permanently ban your account, your Offline Mode-enabled Steam client and games that use only it as DRM would continue to work forever. The second Denuvo is introduced, you lose access even if you already have the files downloaded.

This has already happened with Denuvo more than once because of Irdeto's own server issues.

i bought Dragon's Dogma 2
thinking how bad can Denuvo be surely it got better over the years -.-
let's just say it's a mistake i won't repeat (worst part is they won't remove it despite it being cracked for months now)

DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake
didn't have the denuvo listed on the store page, even one month before release, but they shoved it in at the end (also another game you can play if you are a pirate / thanks to switch emulators)

denuvo won't convert any pirates into paying customers they pirates
neither will it the ones that can't afford it

it's like trying to convince a PC gamer to buy a console
it's not gonna happen (we waited for a year we can wait longer)

at the end its not the pirates that get penalized but the paying customers

as for me i think i wait a few weeks before i pre order it and if they decide to shove it in
i can refund it i gues
The game is not available in GOG so there is a high chance that it has Denuvo, like FF XVI.

If you don't want a bad surprise, don't pre order and wait.

I totally understand your point of view but the purpose of Denuvo is to stop games from being pirated, in FF16's case, its absolutely doing its job. I have FF16 and if there is a performance hit, its very negligible, especially when using Lyall's fix.

Yes, stop piracy from people who don't buy their games, by infringing on the rights of customers who do buy their games. That's great.

Look at FF16 selling 280k copies. Do you think Denuvo helped?
Pirating isn't stealing if we don't own it.
PS I am not a pirate.
Nor support piracy.

Who do you suppose pirates games? You are demonstrating your ignorance of wealth distribution across the world. Probably half the world couldn't come up with 70 USD if their life depended on it. Hell, 40% of Americans don't have 400 USD in savings, and they're rich af relative to most of the world. The people who pirate games are the ones who would never be able to buy them anyways. I feel like this is common sense, but I guess not.

On givingwhatwecan.org, you can check where you land vs the world as far as income. Maybe you could educate yourself? I made 60k last year, which feels like lower middle class in Seattle and I have to split a two bedroom. But I'm in the top 1.2% richest people on Earth. Chew on that before you make ignorant comments.
firmly in the no DRM camp
DRM is a blight on humanity that only causes frustration
don't care if you agree or disagree with that position,
my stance is never changing

would have bought the game on GOG if it were available there

you hear that Square Enix?
put your games on GOG and we will BUY them!
(or sell them direct on your own web store, I don't care, just get rid of the DRM)

Yet you bought it here, so why in the world would they care?
