Yet another game where Nvidia is paying the developer to block support for older GPUs.
If you have an RX 5000 Series and GTX 10 Series, you won't be able to play this game. Technological advancement? No, it's just Nvidia doing its job: throwing out old cards.

I'm sorry to inform you that the game requires HW-RT and DX12U.

Its not Nvidia blocking anything, this is developers choice to not waste time making two very different lighting systems when last non rtx card was released over 5 years ago and is outdated.

Its time to upgrade if you dont have GPU capable of ray tracing.

Nope, this game works exactly like previous one, it's just nvidia trying to squeeze more money. In couple of months you will be able to run this game on GTX cards and RX 5xxx series no problem.

I guess nvidia is just learning from apple

The GTX and RX 5000 series are at least 5 years old now, and Rebirth is a demanding game. You can't just use your old mid-range card forever, you eventually need to upgrade.

I remember a time when GPUs were struggling after a year and obsolete after 2.

Even if the game support older hardware, good luck running RT features without RT hardware, even the most powerful GTX, the 1080ti struggle to run software RT.

I'm not trying to start an argument but are you certain of this? I have an Rtx 4090 and I am not sure if ray tracing in this game is really replacing the baked lighting because that would essentially mean it needs full path tracing and very few games have that and also very few GPUs can utilize it.

I also don't know what engine this game is running but in something like UE 5, lumen is a software run feature but it's not nearly something that would replace older lighting methods.

Given that, the future is path tracing and I'm sure it will save a lot of time for developers regarding development. I've always been one for progress in technology as an enthusiast. But I definitely understand concerns when say another game two days before release advertise the necessity of RT hardware when they took pre-orders knowing the majority of customers wouldn't have that.

That example is of another game but I think it still serves a purpose to show there is a newer trend of making RT capability mandatory it seems. I can see that being OK but I also see other perspectives that are upset, but more along the lines of those who don't advertise the mandatory specs well in advance. Either way, path tracing won't be a viable end all lighting system in my guesstimate for at least 7 or 8 years. The consoles coming out in 2027 or 2028 likely won't have a GPU quite as powerful as a 4090 today. My 4090 needs both DLSS and Frame Gen on to have it able to run Black myth wukong and CP2077. The tech has a ways to go and other manufactures likely have to get more competent as well. Unless we are seeing early evidence of Nvidia setting the table for being a next gen gpu manufacturer and is trying to gently get people upgrading faster.

Why on earth is this locked to the RTX-series? It looks great but it doesn't look leagues above the first game. I was so excited to be able to play this. But I guess I'll have to wait years.

But that was also a time, where high end cards cost 500€ and middle range about 100€, unlike today.

I swear the PC community has been infested with console gamers who expect old tech to do everything modern games require. Consoles already hold games back, now we have people who refuse to update their hardware doing the same thing.

Video game is not a cheap hobby. Time to save up and get a new GPU or PS5.

If your poor, buy yourself a PS5.

That was when the jumps were large and much more noticeable, now we are well into the generation of diminishing returns.
