Triple Buffering and Vertical Sync
With NVIDIA Control Panel, should both of these be turned on. The game seems to default to having Vsync off, which I tend not to do.

I had actually started playing the game again when this popped up, so I installed it. The differences are subtle, but definitely a little better.

I'd still like to tweak NVIDIA Control Panel to get it as nice as possible.

Thanks!

Turn them of if you don't want Vsync. It's that simple, Nvidia control panel will force those settings off.

2015 and people still dont know that triple buffering from the control panel is for OpenGL only. it has no impact on DX games.

You are completely wrong.

you being ignorant and clueless on the topic does not make me wrong.

you have to use a third party app like d3doverrider if you want to force triple buffering in DX games.

I don't know if "true" TB is supported in Source or not, but what I can say for sure is that when it's forced ON through the NVidia control panel you won't get the frame rate halving that you do with standard double-buffered Vsync.

Later Source games have their own built-in TB available right in the game options, so it's a non-issue for them.

To answer OP's question... yes, leave them both on if you're going to use Vsync. Just enable it globally and forget it. It won't hurt anything by having it on, and is beneficial in the games that do support it.

sorry but that is all in your mind. triple buffering from control panel has NO impact on ANY DX game.

You may well be right that it's not the control panel setting affecting it, but I can tell you for a fact that the game does not suffer the 60-30-15 drops when the frame falls below your refresh rate with Vsync enabled.

I'm honestly curious as to why that is, now that I've gotten to thinking about it. The effect is certainly not in my mind, and it's not typical for double-buffered Vsync.

That's why I say I can't be sure if it's really "true" TB, or something else entirely. I suppose I've never really tested it with and without, since I always just set TB on globally and forget it, so I really have no basis for comparison. Guess I've never really given much thought as to what games it's actually affecting.

well the game itself may have triple buffering already but no option to disable it. when L4D came out you were given the option to use it or not.

also some games in general may not always go right from 60 fps to 30 fps on the framerate counter even with no triple buffering.
