I do not believe the saves are shared. However, you can easily unlock all chapters by typing in "sv_cheats 1" followed by "sv_unlockedchapters 15" into the console. If you've never finished the game you can easily just click on the last chapter you played.

You can put the sv_unlockedchapters command in then disable sv_cheats again. I forget if it'll stay that way after quitting again and such, though it should.

achievemensts are blocked if you have sv_cheats (allows people to cheat) set to 1
so if you set sv_cheats to 0 after you've done the chapter unlock "cheat", just type (i nthe console): sv_cheats 0

You can copy/paste the folder
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\save
to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Half-Life 2 Update\hl2\save

Same here, I'm getting "bad inline model number 82" as the error message when trying to use saved games copied over from the original Half-Life 2. Does anyone know if there is a way around this? Would be really handy to be able to use the original saved games.

Jumping in in the middle here. I was replaying HL2 recently and saw this and thought great and copied the whole save folder to HL2:Update I was able to load up my game and kill a few combine soldiers but then I begin to get graphical errors and the game will not load checkpoints.

I don't recommend copy the HL2 saves to Update. Saved games carry certain in-game settings.

The only condition where save transmission could be really useful is perfect player position transmission for picture comparison of two games.

For the other usages start new chapter as mentioned before, or bring console and type map <mapname>. The list of map names: http://wiki.sourceruns.org/wiki/Half-Life_2_Maps
