Try this :
under your nvidia control panel select adjust desktop size and position, the set perform scalling on: GPU instead of display.
That fixed it for me.
Its kind of annoying... because the funest part of HL2 is goreing enemies with items but most of the time when I do it crashes me to my desktop

Graphics crash every 3-4 minutes, can hear game carry on but only ctrl-alt-del will work.
Then restart game play 3-4 minutes crash and so on
game would not run. windows reliability history has windows hardware errors
and nvidia overlay.exe app stopped working

used DDU to wipe the nvidia driver, rebooted, clean installed latest driver, rebooted
game now works on win 11 version 24H2 and nvidia 566.93 (3060ti)
no errors in logs. so guessing something between the dx graphics kernal/nvidia system got messed up during an update.
I’ve heard many times that even retail, and un-modded hl2 can still experience random crashes or screen artifacts on Intel XE GPUs. This is partly because Intel XE has limited support for DirectX 9 games—some work, some don’t. Unfortunately, I don’t have a fix for this, unless you decide to upgrade your GPU hardware later on.
