I can't hear my friends while Im in the dead voice chat

I've noticed that in death chat I cant hear my friends talk (or make any noise at all most of the time) so I was wondering if anyone has had the same issue. The only time I've heard anyone was when I doubled pressed V around 6 times in a row out of frustration and even then I only heard them for about 4 or 5 minutes then it was back to being alone while they try to revive me
