How is this game?

Wondering why it's going for 1 dollar before release, kind of a odd marketing decision...is it just a cheap 10 minute fun type game?

How many players are needed to play the game? Is it possible with a smaller group?

It's a niche game. Even if you have a full lobby of 8 players, they will gradually die off to trip mines, monsters, friendly fire, frostbite, infection, etc. I recommend starting on easy mode, because every other mode is way more unforgiving and less accessible to beginners. A full lobby is preferable but it is doable with a handful of players, but the room for error is less with fewer players.

So what's the recommended player number and max number for a match?
Are things randomly generated like in other horror games like lethal company and phasmophobia? Or is it just one static map right now? If so how big is it?

you can play alone and up to 8 people i am pretty sure. the more people it can be fun. but at the moment there is one map but it is big and use a ski all the time to get around. it can be slow personally if its one or two but more can be so funny.

It's fun. The marketing of a big sale is pretty genius since this kind of game thrives on having a strong playerbase. You can do fine with 2+ players so long as you're willing to evacuate earlier in the match with fewer players, assuming you care about escaping. If you split up, 2+ people can get all the objectives done - though traveling in duos is generally recommended.
