Italian Localization Overhaul

Hi, I'm currently tackling the Italian localization of Armello (I'm also Sark on Weblate) since I found numerous mistakes and odd word choices while watching a friend play it in Italian.

Since I'm trying to slowly go through all the strings, I thought I would express here my rationale for some of the changes I suggested on Weblate and update the thread as I work on it, so other translators can share their opinions.

Suggested changes:

Dice Chests:

Current Translation: Forziere / Cassa (inconsistent)

Proposed Translation: Forziere

Reasoning:
I'm translating all references to these chests to "Forziere". Some of them were translated to "Cassa" instead but I prefer the term "Forziere" because it is the one most commonly used for treasure chests in Italian videogame localizations and it just sounds better to me.


Trickery Cards:

Current Translation: Carte Trucco

Proposed Translation: Carte Tranello

Reasoning:
I dislike the term "Trucco" because in my opinion it doesn't convey the same meaning of the word "trickery": the original term makes me think of a Hero scheming and plotting against the others; the word "Trucco" makes me think of a magician.


Stealth:

Current Translation: Invisibilità

Proposed Translation: Furtività

Reasoning:
"Invisibilità" is the direct translation of "Invisibility", which seems to imply a magical effect. This is a bit jarring to me because Stealth in Armello is usually not aided by magic but rather by the coming of night, the terrain and a Hero's natural stealthiness. While it could be argued that "Invisibilità" has the advantage of conveying immediately what the Stealth effect does to a new player, I believe that "Furtività" is not only a more direct translation of the original ability but also fits much better the flavor of the game.


Wyld:

Current Translation: Lo Wyld

Proposed Translation: Il Wyld

Reasoning:
This is a change I'm not so sure about. I would like to know from other Italians how they pronounce "Wyld" and which article they think fits it best. I personally pronounce it same as the word "Wild" (English pronunciation), so I find that the article "il" sounds best for it.
I am reconsidering this change.


Tense of Quest Narration:

Current Translation: Passato Prossimo (equivalent of Present Perfect in English)

Proposed Translation: Passato Remoto (equivalent of Past Simple, only used in literature)

Reasoning:
The current translations for most sentences that use the Past Tense are just wrong and sound bad. The proper way to translate Past Simple in Italian is with a combination of Passato Remoto and Imperfetto, which is what I'm working on. This is the most time-consuming change I'm making so I can't promise I'll finish it 100%.


Perils:

Current Translation: Pericolo

Proposed Translation: Periglio

Reasoning:
This is only an aesthetic change. "Pericolo" has the same meaning of "Periglio" but it is an older and less widely used word (just like "Peril") that in my opinion fits better with the them of the game.


Sprit Walker:

Current Translation: Attacco Spirituale

Proposed Translation: Viandante Spirituale

Reasoning:
"Attacco" translates to "Attack" in English. It is not a noun you should use to describe a person. I suggest using "Viandante" instead, which is the Italian word for "Wayfarer".


Hero Names:

Current Translation: Some names were translated into their corresponding italian names

Proposed Translation: Original names

Reasoning:
Nobody likes translated character names. This also caused Scarlet to be misgendered, which is just embarassing. Please don't translate names.

Ciao, come te anche io ho fatto delle proposte di cambiamento su weblate.

Le proposte che fai mi sembrano buone, però ho qualche serio dubbio su una di esse:

• L'articolo per la parola Wild, secondo me foneticamente parlando è meglio "lo", suona meglio all'udito. Un trucco per capire meglio quale articolo usare è pensare a quale sarebbe l'articolo adatto se la parola fosse plurale. Converrai che di solito nella lingua italiana le parole singolari con "lo" al plurale fanno "gli" mentre "il" fà "i"; bene ora immagina di pronunciarlo al plurale. "gli" Wild suona meglio di "i" Wild, il suono è più armonioso e meno duro, quindi al singolare l'articolo sarebbe "lo" e non andrebbe modificato.
  
  Non preoccuparti, anche io ho già fatto richieste di cambio articolo, dopo tutto sono errori come altri, leggermente più subdoli e difficili da risolvere ma pur sempre errori.

Hi, like you also I have made proposals for change on weblate.

The proposals you make seem good to me, but I have some serious doubts about one of them:

• The article for the word Wild, I think phonetically speaking is better "lo", sounds better to hearing. A trick to better understand which article to use is to think about what would be the appropriate article if the word was plural. You will agree that usually in the Italian language singular words with "lo" in the plural make "gli" while "il" does "i"; well now imagine to pronounce it in the plural. "gli" Wild sounds better than "i" Wild, the sound is more harmonious and less harsh, so in the singular the article would be "lo" and should not be changed.
  
  Don't worry, even I have already made requests for change of article, after all are errors like others, slightly more devious and difficult to solve but still errors.

You made a really good point about the plural of Wyld. I had not thought much about it because in the game the word is more commonly used in its singular form. In fact, I have only found 4 instances of "Wylds" in the strings.

Già in effetti ne ho trovata una proprio ieri, manco farlo apposta, che non avevo mai letto in game, ed era "sullo Wild". Se si fa la prova del plurale, viene automatico capire che "lo" è l'articolo giusto.
