Private Game Multiplayer - Can't join friends

I go into the game and can't play with my friends. Can't join them in the lobby via steam invite, via game invite, and can't click the joining via code option - it's greyed out. After a while in game, I get the "Network time out" error. Which is weird, because I can find a public multiplayer game. They also seem not be able to join my games/join my lobby.

I've tried starting the game in admin mode, verifying the game files, uninstalling and installing again, disabling my firewall for a sec, nothing seems to work. :C

Any advices?

Had that very same problem. I fixed it by re-activating the steam overlay via the steam options.
Basically if you have that deactivated steam can't find your friends during a game.

Also, it might not work if the friend doesn't have the game started already, so be sure to do that before the invitation.

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately it didn't work. I de-activated the overlay, clicked "ok", then activated it again. Maybe I did something wrong though?

Did you just activate it in the game's options or in general? Because it has to be activated in both.

Hey, I have the same problem, had it for a year now and it's really bugging me.

I tried to enable the steam overlay, but in steam options that box is grayed out, and in Armello itself I see no option to do this anywhere.

it worked for us to open the game from the invite link in the steam message.

Like player1 creates private room and invites friends, player2 closes the game and clicks in the "play now" button.
