it is a simple 1 startpoint and 1 endpoint harbor (they look differently, the endpoint being smalle). Make 2 and they autoconnect. And the assigned ships will sail back and forth, and you will see the resources flow in the flow mode.
I think it might just be simpler than you expect. ;)
having a think about addin something more complex is on my list, but haven't figured it out yet.
Admittedly no idea how to accomplish that while maintaining the ease of automation the system has atm :)
I have the situation, that i created a harbor on a neutral trade settlement further away.
I then stumbled across some settlers that wanted me to pick them up.
I then used them to establish an outpost next to the trade settlement, i placed a harbor there.
Now these two harbors connected although i didnt want that. I wanted both to connect to my main base/city or better even, connect the new Outpost (that could create stone) to my main City (which could send more workers, wood and iron) and then connect the Outpost to the Trade Settlement (which wants stone).
But when the Trade Settlement Harbor and the Outpost Harbor connected, i deleted that connection and moved back to my main city to create a new harbor (the third one).
But now, that harbor doesnt connect to either of the previous two.
I now have 3 harbors that arent connected with each other and even assigned ships to the city harbor.
But theres nothing happening, no connection and i couldnt find a way to set a connection up.
Neither ingame nor via the worldmap and also not via the harbor menu.
This really needs a way to select which harbor connects to what.
Its a non trivial feature tho, so will be some time..
Tho in your case, just realize harbors always connect in pairs, so if you build one out of sequence, you gotta delete some.
Just saying i have a hard time to manage my captains, commanders and trade routes and wished there was some sort of menu i can call, where i can drag and drop the people and select which harbor connects to which.
Makes managing the entire thing easier than having to fast travel to every harbor and reassigning captains, trade routes and then also noting down what i have or already used.
A bit bothersome and clearly needs some QoL updating.
No game breaker, but absolutely making it more chaotic than it needed to be.
So looking forward to some adjustments and improvements in that area.
