What sets this apart from the pack?

As a fan of the post-apocalyptic genre, this hits the spot for me. While there are a lot of other adult visual novels out there, many of which just seem to be more like pornographic slideshows (and nothing wrong with that, either), this is more story-focused. You have the Raider, the mutants, the Zetans, and the Decayed... each with their own storylines. There is a lot of lore built into the story, as well. Also, the story aspects are choice driven. Making one choice could change the way the rest of the story plays out.

For me... Desert Stalker offers a lot more than being a stud main character that goes around banging every hot girl he comes across (though he does that, too). The game has tender/wholesome moments, moments that might bring a tear to your eye, moments that get you excited after taking out a bad guy, etc.

The saying goes... I started playing for the porn, but stayed for the story. Desert Stalker is no exception to that saying.

I'd say it has cinematics at major story points and some other areas. Sex scenes are animated for the most part. The game has over 430 animations in total.

It's a unique story line, with incest overtones (yes you can change names and relationships), but really it's just a cop out, like calling a parent land lord/lady in other avn's, whilst unique there is an element of holding back in other areas, whilst the gore etc doesn't hold back elements like NTR/NTS (using the wife etc), are imho watered down, whilst Desert Stalker is unique there are several others with similar attributes that are not like 90% of other bland AVN's out there; Lustful Voyage, Rebellion-rise of the damned, Violation Nation, Race of Life and a few others, with "tiny" improvements here and there Desert Stalker could easily be the BEST AVN, it feels as if the developer is reluctant to pursue certain in game elements, whilst over exaggerating other elements, ie. incest & gore etc.

It's one of the few porn games where we're playing an anti-hero who we can shape as we see fit. He can rape, he can kill, he can be a knight in a shining armour or a slaver. What really shines here though is the writing. The lore is interesting and well designed (convincing for one), characters are believable, Zaton (main character) is intelligent and charismatic, his wife is perfect and some of the side characters are off the charts good (Kyra or Ivy for example).

Free roam system also works great, usually I hate "sandbox" porn games but this one has no grind at all and every single moment we're getting something new (although if we want we can replay some of the scenes, like having sex with Zaton's wife for example).

What's more, game conveys postapocalyptic atmosphere extremely well and makes me immerse in the story immediately. And everything here is very polished, the interface is great, renders are superb and in general you can tell immediately that devs have put in a lot of work into it instead of copying and pasting the usual template that goes with Renpy.

While I can agree that incest might not be the best element here (I don't care either way, these are fictional characters after all, as long as models look appealing I'm good) gore is crucial for the post-apocalyptic setting. With water (not to mention other resources like fuel or electricity, not to mention more advanced things) being as scarce as it is it's a given that there would be some tensions and opportunism would be prevalent. If everything would be nice and easy the setting wouldn't be convincing.

I get it that resources would be scarce, but story wise you have to admit there are inconsistencies; an over abundance of elements and a shirking of others. I ask and comment here because yes it's a brilliant game, but imho it's not the best it can be, whilst other titles out there are vying for my attention/money, for example; play Race of Life on F95 and watch the renders and especially Animations (far far better than Desert Stalker), and tell me DS is the best AVN, when you can only afford one title, you'd normally go for the "personal" favourite.

What inconsistencies specifically do you see in DS? I find this game extremely consistent and in fact both the gore and sex are way better shown than in Fallout games (and FYI Fallout is my favourite game of all time along with Age of Decadence) where everything was too "nice" for such a setting (well, in Fallout New Vegas you've also had rape and cannibalism but it wasn't explicitly shown).

As for Race of Life, IMO it has re_tarded story and unconvicing characters. It has great animations, sure, (although I wouldn't say they are better than DS ones and definitely not "far far better") and renders in general but the rest is lacking. If you want a better game than DS I can only think of Pale Carnations.

Is Desert Stalker THE VERY BEST and MOST PERFECT AVN you can buy ?. I assume you've played the latest update of Race of Life, the animations are incomparable, have you played lustful voyage, violation nation, rebellion-rise of the damned, leap of faith, Chasing Sunsets etc?. I have posed questions to the developer via Patreon several times, with no response, and I am not the only one to comment on the direction/incest content. As for Fallout never played it and no intention to. Give me Duke Nukem any day ;-). I was hoping that someone would tell me the steam version, if and what has changed as a result of steam inclusion so that I can decide to buy what is a a very good and unique avn.

No AVN is perfect. They all have their flaws. Every single one could have "more" of anyone's particular fetish preferences.

This one is great, in my opinion, so far anyways. I enjoy the incest angle and hope for more family members over time. And certainly anything anal related.

There are many top-tier AVNs that I didn't enjoy because they didn't have enough anal. Sounds like none of what I'm saying will sway anyone's opinion, but we should just be sharing our own not trying to convince others to like what we like.
