2) In the base game I don't think there are free companions. Again it's been a while since I played the base game but I don't think there are any companions for free. This changes in BSM and I think there are four free companions there.
3) There are side-quests; Talk to mayors, smugglers and bartenders and they will provide random side quests. There are larger side quests as well that are unlocked as you progress through the CGL's and find the right people. There are really only two side quests that makes the game easier one is for the truck from the coastal city at CGL ~9. The other is for the base of your own that can lead to a pretty good merchant.
4) There is a special smuggler in the south city who sells cars Rico Reyes. There is a quest to get a base as well - talk to Lond (?) in the starting coastal city - he will give you a quest for a base relatively early in the game.
Sorry I am little iffy on the names it's been a while since I have played the game. That said I have done the game for both endings before BSM was out and again on Steam using BSM and BSM is the way to go. It has a lot of quality of life improvements like a free car early on and free companions, a lot more side-quests, and of course more guns.
I triple checked but no i cant stack bullets.....any bullets at all. even if they are EXACTLY the same. (can't stack 1 bullet with another 1 perfectly same bullet)
I found rico but his cars are too expensive for me..... i talked with everyone in santa maria (coastal city) and this Lond does not give me any quests. BTW what exactly is CGL? and is there a way to check it myself somehow?
I guess i'll play the whole game solo then...if its even doable...cause i am not recruiting mercs that are timed...
As of now i dropped all my stuff in a random crate somewhere in the city...lol....to make space and be able to move freely without being burdened down...
Good thing is that i am not having problem with combat.....cause you know......LOTS of save/load.
So your opinion is that i should play BSM? i'll have to start over from the begining right?
CGL = Current Game Level. It's based on kills with caps based around progress through the main story lines. CGL determines which quests are available to you, what vendors carry, what enemies you face ect. There is a console command to check current game level but I can't remember what it is - this is remedied in BSM with the little black book.
Lond should give the quest pretty early in the game - CGL 3-4 I think. Depending on where you are so far you might have to progress a bit down the main story before you can get that level.
It's doable but I imagine it would be annoying - you would need to just rely on exploting the AI into just strolling past where you've hidden and wouldn't be as much fun. Once you get going later in the game the cost of the mercs is pretty negligible. I used to get the French medic and the Sapper and then the Sniper in the mining town and the cost was easy to cover month to month. Once you ge tthe Ural, even in vanilla, you are rolling in cash,
I would really play BSM. For me the game is about the tactical combat and the variety of weapons; BSM makes it easier to focus on the combat (free mercs, bonus starting cash, better side quests etc.) and enhances the number of guns quite a bit. You will need a new game but really if you are interested in running around the jungle with a Winchester 45-70 and a peacemaker it's the only way to go.
Some tips to help with combat:
- You can use the aim at option to aim at areas where enemies will appear - this is basically the reaction fire in the game. This is particularly useful if enemies are popping around corners repeatedly too fast for a standard aim-fire action and is the best way to setup an ambush around a blind corner.
- You can right click to arm grenades in your pockets (and only in your pockets) and then drag the grenade out as a drop action; use shift to control elevation. This allows you to toss a grenade without having to holster your weapon as the enemy does.
- You can focus on lights and then shift aim up until you see the reticle on the light; this can be useful for knocking out street lamps later in the game which are very hard to hit otherwise.
- As with Silent Storm if one enemy sees your mine they all do - you basically have to place mines in areas where they have no chance to see if before they step on it like around corners ect. Since this game takes place in the jungle and not Europe this effectively makes mines useless. I wouldn't bother hauling them around.
- Depending on the rounds being fired you can shoot through fences, doors, walls ect.
