King's Bounty: Dark Side

King's Bounty: Dark Side

worst in the series
i gotta say it after finishing 3 kb games (including darkside) this is by far the worst one.
too little direction and too much pointless running around. at least in the other games you could just loot the islands for the charts then move right along ignoring the local matters.

oh and i have no idea why in a game all about playing the evil factions for once they would include the medal of the twilight order.
any excuse to play a different faction is totally sunk when humans (the historically best faction) get the wtf insane medal of the twlight order (and bad news twilight order edition) to make human troops extremely cheap and have crazy high morale.

i agree this game is annoying theres never really any directions at all other than talk to that guy but never anything if hes in the south east or whatever so you just run around the map every little spot

same with getting that weird wood in dragandor or barazgund it just tells me it is there but i roamed around those maps like 5 times checking every damn shop and talked with everyone
Mrrshan68 Sep 26, 2014 @ 3:02am
yeah nowhere near enough direction for the quests.
also really annoying how alot of the quests are long chains and you get nothing but a troll face from the quest giver at every stage except the last one.
seriously annoyed me to have to perform 4-5 tasks for one chump to get 1 reward and each task always seemed like the last till the quest giver randomly decided he wasnt done yet.

You know what's your best direction for quests? NOTEPAD. You know, that thing where you write stuff on, which you previously read? Like with a pen or pencil? Honestly, do you even read the quest lines thoroughly or you just mash your LMB through the answers? Or are you expecting to see a quest marker that lets you just move to location to location like a zombie and feel a sense of accomplishment in the end cause you went from point A to B to C to D and finished the quest???

You might wanna ask questions in the got stuck thread. The answers may be more obvious than you think.

I will also say that the questions asked in this thread by all posters are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ obvious if you read the quest text and put your head into it a bit. Please don't feel trolled, but it is. I promise you that much.

I will give you a few clues though:
- if you see a completely greyed out quest, then this means the quest person has something else to do with the remainder of the storyline OR intersects with another storyline OR you need to wait a bit till it activates. The only completely bugged quest with a greyed out storyline is the newspaper quest. Like Van Wilder says, "Write that down".
- if you get a hint, write it down. Innkeepers, the Artist Studio, Feline Delacourt, the Shelter, Blackie, and other NPC's are the solution to your quest problems. It is your OWN fault if you did not read through the quest text completely.
- do you even google before you swear? LOL.
- The Bear Butte cchief is hiding. And you can see him if you zoom out and move around all the time. And I mean ALL the TIME on that stupid outcropping overlooking the camp. Do you really need more clues?
- Who can cook fish soup for you? What do you need for it? WHom can you ask about it?

Try one of the oldest challenges in KB history - the "how far can you go with one Black Dragon" challenge. It might just be what you are looking for.

EDIT: KBDS is quest oriented as much as it is combat oriented. Live with that fact. It will make your game better. The devs actually put more effort in this game this time and let you solve stuff on your own. Are you smart enough? Remains to be seen.

Agree, is the worst. I will not finish the game ( currently playing with orcs, lvl 55), is sooooo boring.

okay thats nice yeah i know its more complex old school find out for yourself type of game but still i find most things way to vague

for example the black mountain parti read the crystal i even reloaded a save to read it and it says black mountain how is that helpfull?

and while im at it fish soup? who does it? i dont know i cant remember i even met a cook or anything, maybe some inn on some random island who knows, i guess fish? devil fish? still no idea

thing is the way to solve the quests is arbitrary and stupid alot of the time.
perfect example is the idiotic mould remover quest. you gotta find 5 mushrooms and the only clue you get is they grow on brown ground.
wtf ALL ground is brown!.
they could tell you they grow on corrupt/dead ground or something but no they just say brown.
that is not a reasonable amount of direction especially since the game has a metric ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of background decoration mushrooms everywhere you cant interact with and the quest onces look very small and dont stand out.
also if the game expects you to take notes in freakin notepad its a failure state right there. in any game all clues should be repeated ad infinitum if the quest is active and you talk to the same dude.

Good puzzles have all the bits in front of you and its your job to solve it.
Bad puzzles ask you to assemble random disparite elements with no relation in an arbitrary fashion.
Guess with one KB:DS has?

Fish quest is very, easy actualy. Close to the ghost pirate who gives you the quest you will find a small island with a devil fish enemy. After killing it you will get some fish which you can use in the local inn on the island to make soup. 90% of all the quests in this game you should be able to solve with the resources on the quest island itself, only for some of them you are asked to teleport between isles.

You're right, in some quests the describtion is, well let's say poor, but I guess some of the problems are related to the translation from russian to english.

The black mountain can be found in Helvedia in the northern part of the map. If you explore the whole region, you will find a road going around a big mountain (not quite black, but that's the place). At the end of that road you will see a female enemy hero. She is part of two quests. After winning the fight, the quest in helvedia (help the resistance) ends and in addition also a part of the main quest.

Good luck! :-)

This is strange. Did you try to to get to the dead end of the road that lead around that mountain. Maybe there is a trigger point for the enemy hero to show up?!

Or it depends on the playing character. I played as a demoness. On the other hand it seems to be the same quest! Maybe you should have to talk to someone first...perhaps the guy (imp) that gave you the quest with the fire elementals?!

This game does push you to write things down, but is that really a bad thing?
Seriously, just ask in the thread mentioned above, and people will help you.

Not everything in this game is hard, nor is it easy. You should have been here for early acccess. :)

Also, Kingdon of the north is well considered to be the worst of the series. So, yeah, this game couldn't try to be that bad.

KBWOTN is the worst. This one outmatches KBWOTN 100-fold. Keep whining guys :) I know the quests are hard and require some thinking but... really?
davidb11 Sep 28, 2014 @ 7:44pm
To be fair, KBWOTN is still better than Limbo of the Lost. :)
But stage iv lung cancer, Brain cancer, Ebola, and others are better than Limbo of the Lost.
Mrrshan68 Sep 29, 2014 @ 2:50am
what was so bad about wotn exactly?
to me it seemed to play pretty much exactly like armored princess.
i remember having nothing but fond memories of wotn. i mean yeah it had some bugs but i dont think any kb game is totally bug free.

darkside just fails because of its horrid quest system.
its not that the quests cant be done its that they are poorly designed and it really takes away from the whole exploration/adventure aspect when you are running back and forth like an idiot talking to every npc to find the arbitrary one the quest wants you to talk to.
