1/ Make sure you have Diana's portrait
2/ Go to Henri and see if you can skip some of the earlier stages (though I hold out little hope that this will work)
He gave me the portrait now, thanks a lot for the tip, i don't think i would have found that as there was no clue whatsoever in the quest description.
I was looking for a groom for Diana and indeed, after I beat the vikings and selected one to become king (the one who said he only needed one love, not sure if it's a requirement), I talked to him and he asked for a wife. I showed him the portrait, had to go to the artist to try for a painting of the viking king (turns out he won't do it, so a verbal description is enough) and then convinced Diana just by talking to her.
There shouldn't be a whole lot of requirements, you just have to make sure you're completing the prereqs on both the Viking and Amazon sides.
Maybe you can still defeat them. Here are the locations (hopefully similar in every game):
3 Ambushs - 1. near the peasant hut where you met Annette, 2. around the circus tent, 3. close to the castle of Baron de Ponton
+ 4 triggered by conversations: 1. Talk to Baron de Ponton --> graveyard, 2. Talk to the painter --> in front of the mage tower, 3. Talk to the inn keeper --> (after forcing him to tell truth) directly in front of the inn, 4. Talk to the necromancer --> wrecked village close to his castle.
The problem with the painter is, that there is an option to get a painting of carmilla, after defeating her, so it could be that the trigger for the Amazonian quest might not work, when Carmilla is still alive.

I finished the game but I'll go back and check these out. Thanks.
But really, I had no trouble doing the Amazon/Viking quests and I never killed Carmilla, so it shouldn't be an issue. Maybe there's other triggers.
