IMHO Aftershock is the best version of the UFO games. Apocalypse's very good air tactical combat is cancelled out by Aftershock's more strategically realistic simultaneous action.
Tip: ALWAYS play combat in slow motion which not only makes the combat more manageable but turns it into the final battle of "The Wild Bunch".

Installing the resolution mod was quite straightforward. I put the files into the UFO directory, then started the game. At the first start, half of the game was rendered off-screen, but there was enough of the UI visible that I was able to reset the preferences, which fixed the problem for the next start.
It was a shame, as gallifrey said this game was a real gem. The combat environments, changing mission parameters and diverse enemy groups made this a great game. It did so much that set it apart from other xcom likes and xcom itself because it did it all only bigger and better. Sometimes I wonder if it was all too ambitious because it fell apart at the end.

This UFO is very buggy, but in my opinion, its the very bestest UFO of all :)

Spoiler alert. Don't read ahead if you don't want spoilers.
And like the other UFO games - the end is a bit disappointing. The levels are huge but there are still only 10 of the same Wargot dotted around on the first couple of levels.
Did you ever get to the stage where you were so much better than the Wargot you could dispatch ten without a scratch on you ? You'll need to be that good.
The computer lies. It tells you that each passenger module of your spaceship takes six crew. It doesn't. It takes four. So you'll need four modules for 16 crew rather than three for 18. That said you could go five passengers models and three stores. I took two droids and a huge amount of inventory and still had space.
But looking at it you'll need to complete 14 - 16 levels to complete the game - with no healing.
Good luck.

The game seems to run perfectly apart from the screen resolution which is proving to be a bit of a hassle. I've been plugging in some of the overwrite updates to try to fix this but haven't hit on the right combination yet. I'm surprised this game which predates Afterlight is so finicky in that respect.
To change Afterlight's res all I had to do was open a config file with notepad and manually switch it. The newer game responds better to the old school solution; go figure.
The Starghosts were fighting with the Wargots on the ship so who or what they are remains unclear (as is where they are coming from now I have blown up the ship).
There is nothing new to research and no new missions except when I get attacked.
Do I now have to wipe out the cultists territory by territory ?
