So, how bad is the translation?
I'm a fan of point and click RPGs, and this game looks right up my ally. At only $5, I would already own it if it wasn't for one thing. Everyone, even people who really like this game, have harshly criticized the offical English translation. The critisims seems to vary, some people say "the translation is bad but the game is still good" while others seem to say "THIS HORRIBLE TRANSLATION RUINS THIS ENTIRE GAME!!!!". I haven't seen anything about the English version of this game. The offical trailer here on Steam is in Russian. I can't make out the text in the small store page screenshots, so I can't tell if those are even English or not, and all the high quaility screenshots here on the community board are all in Russian.

So, what I'm asking here is two things:

1. Is the English translation faithful to the original Russian text, or is it full of mistranslations at best, and tons of liberties that barely resemble the original vision at worst?

2. Is the English so poor that it actually hinders gameplay? (Such as misdirection, confusing quest directions, nonsensical dialog, ect.)

Thanks in advance!

It's not faithful to the original as far as I know, but it's never hindered gameplay for me. Once I get to an intermediate level in Russian, I'll know for sure.

Can you say how unfaithful it is? Is it just a few name changes here and there? Or did they go all-out and change the entire story in the translation?

Because I read a review on Gamefaqs for this game that said the original story was great in Russian, but butchered into a mockery in the English version.

But as long as the text is eligible and the game is playable in English, I'll keep any eye on this game.

The game is playable, and the text is legible. The jokes are what they didn't get across, the speech is sort of flat and robotic. "If you continue to move around in that manner" (Forgot the rest, but it was a threat), and such.

Oops, I meant to say "as long as the text ISN'T eligible". But you probably figured that out. Sorry.

Anyway, I can deal with bad dialog and flat characters as long as the actual gameplay is good. And this game looks really fun. A lot of people compare it's gameplay to the original Fallout games, which I love. So I'll pick this up sometime. Hell, I might even pick it up later today. Even if I hate it, what's a mere $5 in the long run?

Thanks for clearing some things up for me! :OptionC:

Heres hoping this game becomes more popular through Steam, and gets a proper translation some day.

I can't compare it to original russian, but the English dialogue is incredibly cheesy. Thats not great but not game breaking either. The worst part is they have subtitles that I can't figure out how to turn off that are different text than the voices. Normally I like subtitles but when they're wrong it's terribly irritating.

The game is completely playable in english. You get a few laughs with the translation at points, particulary at the beginning. An example being "My spear is greater than your spear". But overall the $5 asking price is worth paying if you are a fallout 1 & 2 fan you will most likely get 50+ hours of enjoyment from the game.

I haven't played in English version, but i can say only one thing. Some humor is really difficult to translate without loss of meaning.
