Hah, ok
Will be good to have this option btw
But to be clear, I don't mind optional female protagonist.
Having more options is always good for players.
press X to doubt
You can always play Uknown 9, Flintlock or any of the current year game made with women first mentality. Though with such profile name i doubt you are one.
*but its because they lack representation in games like this*
By adding woman protag you have to alter storyline and quests to fit both genders (or you might not do it and end up with abomination like veilguard), its unavoidable and by doing so you might replace a portion of RPG enjoyers with a group of women (and women pretenders) who like to dress slutty.
Im not making up statistics as you do, but your 50% females is definately more than just wrong.
Besides, this is a story driven RPG, not an MMO. For some RPGs like this, giving a choice just doesnt work, or would take a lot of effort. If its a nogo for you, find a game you like. Nobody is going to change this, just because you make this thread about it.
Not quite true. Write characters, not hamfisted/over-exaggerated gender stereotypes. Mass Effect did this well. You can write a protagonist, whose gender is not locked, if you try.
Obviously, from my perspective, I will always prefer character creator, because of freedom of choice, for everyone. I totally understand/sympathize why men don't like having a game gender locked to female. I was there, when this was happening at large, but to me. I don't lack the empathy/sympathy, because I lived it and don't want someone else necessarily live it as well.
What then baffles me, is when men go and yell they want a character creator for the game they would really enjoy to play, when the game locks them to female, but when the game is locked to male, they tell us to basically suck it up. The hypocrisy of it, so to speak. To me, that's saddening, because I've always believed that everyone should be able to play the game/genre they love, the way they'd prefer. RPGs of all genres, their main power is power of choice. That's the very reason I've loved them since my early teenager years.
Also, those mentioning Tomb Raider being gender-locked to a woman - technically not a RPG. I never enjoyed the genre of that game, and wouldn't play it regardless of the character. I love complex RPGs, with rich fantasy worlds, without it being locked to male protagonists. Simply as, don't compare the uncomparable genres. Hardly fair.
I call BS on that one. That happens to pretty much every interesting game with female protagonist. Someone asks if he can play as male and then gets tons of garbage in response, thread gets locked. And in 90% cases devs are too woke anyway and don't give a damn. I stopped bothering and just don't play such games myself.
So, yeah in the end we just suck it up and play games we like with male protags if it's an issue. And you can too, you're a big girl obviously.
Also good thing to understand this is an indie studio with limited resources and the character is likely pre-defined.
