Shop item locking is a popular suggestion for sure - I'd say it's either very likely that I'll implement that, or I'll be doing some other shop/item-related stuff that will more or less address the issue.
As for on-hit effects: It would get fairly intensive (for both visual and/or sound effects), especially when you have many projectiles and high firerate - Won't say it'll never happen, but I'd need some more voices to say they want this, I think.
It's your lucky day - I realize that content creators / streamers would benefit from having access to it fairly early on, so I'm making Shmup Mode unlock roughly after your first victory. There won't be an update for it and version will still be 2.1.0 but that change will be live within the hour.
