This game is awesome but for f*cks sake, where is the shadows patch?
I mean come on, if any of the devs are reading this I want them to know I really love this game and I can't wait to get back to playing it!
I'm actually holding off playing it because they promised they'd be adding them shortly after the first patch.
It's their own fault that they kept the shadows option in the settings panel...I doubt anyone would notice otherwise...but now that people have noticed, most of us are still looking forward to seeing how much it will affect the visuals...It's perks like this that make the PC platform and community the way it is!
Most of us PC gamers happen to care about trivial things such as these!

If they're not going to keep their promises, why make them in the first place? I understand they're a small dev team...I just don't understand why I care so much about this...so hurry up and release the patch already!

well first they release the game that's obviously not finished to grab money fast

then they promise to fix some stuffs, it takes too much time than needed but they 'fix' it

and then there are those shadows.. they promised to fix it "next week" and it has been two months now
they proceeded to release some dlc we never asked for instead...how about fixing the actual game first and then focus on dlc? dlc should always be an afterthought if the game itself isn't completely ironed out.

Hi all - to address the shadows questions: after a large amount of development time and investigation, we've come to the unfortunate decision that we won't be able to release the shadows patch. Due to the large scales of our levels we could not create shadow maps with a high enough resolution to look good. Performance concerns also worried us, and after trying unsuccessfully for a number of weeks to tweak the shadow code to look good, we were unsuccessful. To make matters worse, the programmer responsible for this has actually now left Born Ready Games, and moved onto pastures new. It's an unfortunate situation, and we're sorry to have built your hopes up, but at this stage there's now very little we can do.

Putting the option in the game before we’d tested this was obviously an error on our behalf, especially as we hadn't managed to put shadows in the original game. For this we can only apologize.

That said, the Revenant Strike Suit will be launching in a couple of weeks, and this will go out to anybody that owns the Director's Cut FOR FREE.

Thanks for your patience with this - and apologies once again.

so you definitely consciously released the game in an unfinished state. some people myself included weren't willing to play 'til it's finished so now you won't add shadows we're pretty screwed

that's just amazing to scam people like that. shame on you

Thanks for the update...this is actually all I needed to know...this tells my OCD affected self that I'm free to get back to the game and hopefully they'll eventually do away with the shadows option. Even though this update could've been disclosed sooner, it's much appreciated.

Cheers

Truly a shame because the game itself is so great. I've been a huge fan of this series ever since I fell in love with the original's beautiful graphics and adrenaline rush-inducing high-octane action. I bought the Director's Cut within moments of it becoming available, but had I known how this was going to turn out I would not have paid for it. This is borderline a scam. Great job dragging your company name through the mud.

Sigh... I guess I can resume the original game now. I stopped playing the original (which so far was outstanding). When this was released I instantly bought it and to my dismay noticed how much the original art direction suffered without the shadows.

Visualy fidellity is important for immersion, especially when it was used to advertise the DC edition. I feel like I bought a lemon now. I don't think its superficial to be disappointed over the lack of a visual feature that plays a major part in over-all presentation. Though I have the original game to fall back on, I just feel scammed now.

Last time I impulse buy anything before first looking into user feedback and more importantly, the dev/community relationship.

Developers, especially Indie developers hang on a thread at times. There are great ideas and implementations on the drawing board for everyone. It doesn't always work out exactly as planned. I'm sure there is nothing more that the devs would love than to have some great shadows implimented for depth. Even losing a single person though can sometimes make or break the whole game. Don't forget, some of these games only have from 2 to 5 people working on them. If one of two programmers leaves, and he's the lead, there could be huge set backs. I think it's really great that these guys have come up with what they have so far and I have no doubt it has been really stressful. I know I would be very stressed out seeing all these comments, wanting to create fixes for everyone and knowing it may not be possible right now in certain areas. I was waiting for the shadow patch to play. Now that we know that isn't going to be possible right now I can jump in and enjoy the game. We all choose to support these people so the game can development can continue. There is never a guarantee the game will ever be finished, but supporting them buy paying for early access sure gives a lot more incentive and motivation considering many people are trying to work full time day jobs and also trying to develop a game that could take years.

That would be great if this were a demo or an Early Access game as you said. The problem is this game was advertised and sold as a full, completed product when in fact they released it knowing it wasn't finished. As the developers have said since the first week of this game's launch when people were discovering all sorts of bugs, they released it way too early and that was a mistake. Things would have been very different if they'd have waited until either all the problems were fixed, or realized some of the features they were planing were impossible to implement (shadows). Releasing a product in an unfinished state and making empty promises to eventually complete it isn't good when you're asking full price for it as a completed product. That's what we expect out of alphas, betas, and Early Access.

I think at the end of the day it's the near silence, all these weeks, that hurts the most.

I'm right with you there...I can't really blame them for being a limited dev team and I can appreciate the fact that there really aren't many games like this out there.
Props for their efforts in keeping us posted on the game's development and ironing out those first hand glitches.

I vote just add workshop to the DC version and release the patch as a unfinished project to the modders... I'm sure that a group of modders could get it working.

Does the PS4 version have shadows? If it does, I'll just play it on console. Thanks!

I'd like to know the answer to that question too.

I've seen it stated in another thread that the game "was developed for PS4 and ported over from it (thus resulting in numerous optimization issues reported on these forums)" but that post was made some time ago.

So how does this seeming console port measure up today?
Is it in any way inferior to the PS4 version?
Does it still suffer optimisation issues?

I bought the game at the time of release at the 85% discount but, what with all the issues, I've not played it yet as I'd rather wait until it's properly finished before doing so. I can forgive the dev for omitting the shadows (as unfortunate as that may be) if the game otherwise looks good and plays well. If its current state is still as a shoddy and poorly optimised console port then it looks like I'll be waiting even longer before playing it...
