John's Friendship Unlocked!

Ok, I managed to figure out how to unlock John's friendship route. Thanks go to both liz4187 and KoshkaOFC for some of their suggestions (found in the CG Galleries thread). Here's the trick to doing so.

Only focus on fitness and fashion (working out and working respectively), only taking days off for Pho when needed. No blogging, no studying, nothing else. By January 10th (the day it unlocks your path) you should be over 200 in both.

Only go out with John once. Buy the scones (raises friendship).

Spend the Night
Are you ok?

Forgot to mention it in the first post, but you need to wear the medieval dress to the cast and crew party.

Haven't managed to unlock the ending yet. I've tried ignoring him after the friendship unlocks, maxing the affection, only going out for scones, etc. but everything is still ending up with the milquetoast ending you get if you don't get the full romance ending.

Ask John out every week until he goes out with you. Date him just the once and get the scones. Buy the copy of Knight Errant early on and watch it. Wear the renaissance dress to the cast and crew party. Work every job you can except the Halloween one.

And here's the more important part. As soon as Lloyd gives you his number, call him every weekend, and hang out with him, just as you would on his route. It will unlock the friends ending in time.

So I followed your adivce exactly (and then tried a handful of variations with number of times hanging out and all), and I on Jan 10, I either get on Lloyd's route or a solo route--based on the little Lloyd or Sian icon when I save. Is there a conversation with John that makes it obvious I'm on the friendship route and/or a John icon on the save? Because I can't for the life of me figure it out...

it worked for me. did you have fashion and fitiness stats around 200? (it's give or take 10 points it seems) or miss one of ben's jobs right after taking one of the big exams around chirstmas?

Yeah, it's still tricky. If it makes it easier, only go out with Lloyd the once before officially getting on John's route, but his relationship is important for best ending. I ignored John after January, never took him on dates or to the renn fest, so there's that too.

I feel your pain Rek, as I did the same thing. Tried his route 3-4 times a day for a couple weeks before I got it.

In the process of writing a guide with detailed specifics for every route for every character. Yeah, this one STILL gave me a headache. About 2 hours of reloading from a "communal save" the weekend before Halloween with everything balanced to enable me to get any route except Alvin's. Yes, even Benito's (though I recommend doing Alvin's pre-Halloween stuff for Benito to make it easier).

Ok, making a note here for myself (and anyone else who wants to read it before I finish the guide), here's how John's friendship works.

Date him at least twice, without changing clothes, and only getting scones, before 1/10. It can be done multiple times, with him complaining about eating the same thing over and over. Also, make sure to get Lloyd to go out with you at least once. If you ask him every weekend from when you get his number, it should be about 12/6 when he says yes (later if you missed asking him any weeks.

Options to pick when prompted are:
Accept his offer
Shrug it off
Spend the Night
Are you ok?

After that, keep going out with both men once you unlock the route on 1/10. However, you should go out with Lloyd more, about 2-3 times for every 1 time you go out with John, and never invite John to anything but scones. On his birthday, give him the tie from ???, while giving Lloyd the watch. Once you can make cupcakes, make about 9 dark forest (Chocolate, Chocolate, Strawberry) and give them only to Lloyd on your dates. In addition to the movies and foods already listed on the other guide out there, Lloyd also likes seeing Machete Man.
