I did review the FAQ as well. Verified there is no needed update for my Steam client and verified the integrity of the install as well. There could be things I'm missing but wanted to add that info as well. I also cannot watch friends play using the Steam overlay.
-Have you tried using a VPN?
-Removing your save files?
"The fix: Go to the game properties by right clicking it, and go to "Workshop"
You might see a mod there. DELETE IT"
So try that too
I did review my anti-virus and didn't see anything. I use Windows Defender and never had issues before. I'm away from my PC so it'll be a few hours before I cam double check that.
I deleted my only active save file in game but can browse my local files just in case as well. I figured a clean uninstall would help but with Steam cloud backup, it can't hurt for me to look again.
I've never used a VPN with this game before. I'm not opposed to trying one but if the game works with a VPN, there might be a different issue going on.
I did check the workshop and there is nothing there. No mods, and nothing subscribed. All mods I used were outside of Steam and should be un-installed.
What all have you tried? Any changes since you were last able to play the game?
I'll give this a try on my laptop and my wife's PC tomorrow. Both have launched with mods before but I can uninstall everything before installing any updates. She uses Linux so if we run into the same issue on her PC, I'll make sure to specify.
Alright, I removed Thunderstore from my laptop and then installed the update. I updated Content Warning and was able to launch into single player with no issues. I'm really not sure what to do with this info now, haha.
My main PC still can't launch the game.
Perhaps there is another program installed on the PC that is causing issues, anything you might have installed since the issues started to happen?
We swapped mod packs a lot as not all mods worked really well. This is the last mod pack we used : 01934c3d-4097-3aab-3c3b-3e327b4e598b (Code is for ThunderStore)
I hadn't played on the laptop in a few months. The PC I play on now was built to replace it, so there's no easy way for me to tell what mods were used. I'm pretty sure it was the same modpack on both, though. The only reason I can say this confidently is due to the fact that my wife played Content Warning on my laptop with the same group of people before the newest update. I can scroll back through Discord and get exact info on when that happened to see if it was a specific mod or not.
The laptop was also able to play modded using Steam mods. I've had no issues at all playing games with it. If there is any info I can provide to help, just let me know. I don't want anyone else to have the same issue who might not have more than one device.
Hello! I have just finished going through a complete reinstall of windows myself and have found that the issue with being unable to join any random game and then being thrown into a hosted random session where no one ever joins is still a thing. I have absolutely no mods installed, completely clean. This seems to be similar to the previous issue where I couldnt find any random games to join, but this time instead of hanging on the loading it just pops me into a host session and then I am in my own private world because no one ever joins.
Is there some issue where the game cant connect to matchmaking and is just booting players into a host session??? Whatever it is, it is killing the game for me and the proposed solution of completely wiping my computer and reinstalling windows did nothing but waste time. I am not a programmer but am decent at troubleshooting, I would look into the matchmaking and ensure it is actually functioning correctly.
I have been able to join 2 "random" games over the period of several hours across 3 days of trying. So it's kind of working but there is some issue present and I strongly believe it is the matchmaking.
First recreate the issue in the game, then press the Windows key + R and type appdata into the prompt that appears. Then navigate to LocalLow\Landfall Games\Content Warning > locate the file called “Player” and send it to support@landfall.se
