Anyone know what the clapper does?

Is it for starting off the recording? do you click it each time you start recording? is it for funnies?

Wondering the same, maybe it's just cosmetic?
I'm not even sure if the microphone does anything because i was rubbing it in the vlogger's face as he spoke and it didn't change volume if i got closer at all.

the microphone doesn't actually make anything louder from what i can tell, but it does give a +3 views per frame bonus if its in frame

as for the clapper I can't find its use anywhere that looks trustworthy

Microphone does make sounds louder, at least footsteps

My sister, using the camera recorder, was also able to hear sounds that I couldn't hear while I was carrying the boom mic. We stick together when we play, though, so we don't know the range of the mic, and whether it has to be close to the camera or not.
