Is there any reason to Eat Unequipped Cursed Items?
I thought I read that eating a cursed item may grant you a benefit. After eating many (10-20) cursed items, I have yet to see a benefit. Might it be a buff or some temporary benefit?

I gained a bit of max HP once, I think it was 4 or 5 HP. Looked permanent.

Other times, nothing happened or I actually took some damage.

I haven't done this very often (less than you), so my sample size is tiny. I wouldn't be able to give you percentages on the odds or even a full list of possible outcomes for curse removal.

What command key is used to 'eat' items?
Horth Dec 28, 2014 @ 4:17pm
Its a scroll that you use, dropped by mobs or sold at vendors.

Ah yes... that might be a bit misleading.

It's not items that get eaten, it's the curses.

The scroll is appropriately named, you'll know when you find one.

I have found scrolls of eat curse and used them. Didn't know they served a real purpose because once the curse is gone, it's a regular item that you've probably gotten already. I've used a few but don't see a purpose unless you're in the habbit of equipping unidentified items all the time. .But with scrolls of identify being so cheap and with free idenitfy at the academy, what's the point in scrolls of eat curse?

I suppose as you say, you get an exp boost? Probably is insignificant.

Don't know about experience, I only got a HP bonus. But in any case I certainly didn't mind the extra 4 or 5 HP, which might seem small for a level 15 but was nice to have at lower levels.

I despise micromanagement, so I didn't bother equipping and eating curses off of every piece of cursed gear that I came across. For someone more... patient, shall we say, maybe it can result in a 50 HP buff over time, which isn't superb but isn't insignificant either.

Do you have to equip the item to get the benefit +HP? I was just doing it to items in my inventory.

There are other reasons to use the scrolls other than a possible minor HP boost. You see, sometimes you find awesome cursed items. For example, I found a ring once that had several good bonus and take less 100% damage from cold attacks. The only negative on it was a -50 fire resist. Normally this is a huge buff on any character and the -50 fire resist is easily paid of with an upgrade hammer of +150 fire resist as an example... But if the ring is good, why ever removing it then? Because you might just find an even better ring and need to take that one out, but cursed items can't be removed so you have to remove it by force... While most cursed items are just plain bad, some are actually good. By the same token not all legendary items are good though most are.

You do not need to equip the Cursed Item. I believe it is a random chance of getting an HP boost when "eating" curses, I've gotten the HP boost from eating a Curse off an item in my inventory

I've bought some scrolls of curse gear and scrolls of eat curse to test it.

I cursed some gear and then uncursed it. I got 1hp damage (not permanant HP loss, just damage that heals naturally) but no HP gain.

I could try more often I suppose - as both those scrolls are quite common.

The curse are managed in a similar way of the shops and dungeons.

- Handmade curse with Scrolls of curse gives a curse of rank 1, even if it's a nasty curse. It's the same as if you buy armors and weapons in the shops and melt them at the academy. This is why it only deal 1 dmg upon breaking the curse.

- Each dropped cursed item have an invisible curse rank (similar to enchantement, but on the negative side). The higher the curse, the better the chance of benefits or the amount of received damage upon eating the curse.

- Eatin a curse of rank 2 or more on an item have a small chance of cursing another item in the inventory or even equiped item with a lower rank curse. If the item is equiped, you'll have to use another scroll of eat curse to remove the cursed item.
(For example, eating a curse of rank 3 can curse a new item with a rank 2 curse)

Again, as I was saying previously, you can't tell the curse rank right away... for the same reason why you can't tell the enchantement level of an item. You can "guess" it based on the amount of bad thing from the item :

Curse of Rank 1 : Less damage or armor
Curse of Rank 2 : Same as rank 1, but with a small stat debuff
Curse of Rank 3 : Same as rank 2, but with another debuff.
Etc.

Also, there's mutliple same curse on an item that also represent a rank.
For example, -2 on a weapon is a Curse of Rank 1. -4 (as 2x -2), curse of rank 2, etc.

Wow.

I didn't bother eating curses before, I'm certainly not gonna bother doing it now!

I usually just keep collecting gear until I get over 20 or so cursed items, then use the Eat Curse scroll, most times it nets me +5 HP. Then I melt it all down at the Blacksmith in the Academy. I have never used the Curse Gear scroll....may have to look at that.
xenxander Jan 3, 2015 @ 1:58pm
I notice if I curse about 10 pieces of equipment with scrolls and then use the one eat curse scroll, I normally get that +5 hp

Probably just playing the odds as it rolls 10 times. It's cheap to buy those scrolls, too, later game.
