Interchange?
What are they, and how do you use them?

You apply them on top of an existing station. They basically make the station bigger, allowing them to hold greater capacity, as well as faster boarding/disembarking of passengers.

Also, the game seems to have been adjusted in such a way that interchanges become vital. Maybe it's just our imaginations; but both my wife and I have noticed that the stations are getting much more full with greater haste, almost requiring Interchanges to allow for greater capacity.

I was wondering the same thing--I assumed it just made an existing station bigger.

Am I missing something or are these permanent once you place them?

No point unless you can have more trains running on your line.

Besides adding interchanges we only made one more balance change: adding carriages now doesn't increase the loading speed of trains, just the capacity. The intention wasn't to make interchanges a must have! That's not a fun decision to make. Hopefully it's just another upgrade type added to the mix to make the end of the week decision that little more interesting.

No...having a larger station capacity has a point.

Like I said, it could have just been our imaginations at work on that one. The stations just seemed to be getting busier, faster; and the timing of that with the appearance of interchanges just lead to us one conclusion that, frankly, didn't really bother us. If that's not the case, so be it; business as usual :-)

I think it only comes up on certain maps

Unlikely.

In the update it says it's on the first 3 maps, I think, right now. They also made Cairo and Hong Kong harder IIRC

arent interchanges a bit useless? you cant replace them, when you get them early and in the late game completly different stations will be overrunned.

Over at the Trello page that provides some light details as to what is being worked on or planned (https://trello.com/b/RaRC9Py6/mini-metro) the Doing section lists 'Add interchange icon'. I wonder if that will give us something to grab on to and pull off as needed. That said, I can also see the logic in NOT allowing replacement. It's a structural upgrade, and so shrinking a building after adding on to it, so to speak, isn't as easily explained away as sealing off/opening up a new tunnel as we move the lines around. It's just a bit jarring when everything else is so easily shifted and moved about; but I find that it does force me to use them only when needed since, unlike lines and trains, I don't get to just shift them into another locale on the fly.

Hopefully one of the boys can shed some light on what the plan is with the Interchanges in that regard; whether the current model of one-time use is to be kept.

I don't understand how this makes them useless.

Also what is "early' game--or more what's more puzzling, what is "late" game?

early game = less stations/less trevellers, late game = many stations/many trevellers ;)
