Daily Challenge Chat
Hi all. I think the Daily Challenge is a big part of what makes Mini Metro fun. But there's sadly no good way to communicate with other daily challengers, and it's more fun to play against people than just names on a scoreboard.

So, I (and at least one more daily challenger) think it would be a good idea to have a thread (this thread) where people could say something/anything about today's challenge. For example, I've seen people expressing their happiness about getting good placements, in the screenshots section. Maybe this thread could serve that purpose. But it could also be used for more ongoing discussions.

I'll start by congratulating rinsul, whoever you are, for a very good (winning?) run today!

And btw, if moderators think it's a good idea, feel free to delete this thread and start a pinned one with a similar purpose.

Nice initiative, guth! I don't have much to comment on the challenge today (Dec. 27), but if I may go back to Tuesday's map (Mumbai normal) - where I was beaten by guth as usual:steamfacepalm: - I actually tried three times with slightly different strategies, and got results within a 150 point range. Only the first counted of course, but it was interesting to see that it didn't matter much which strategy I used. Not on any occasion could I match your winning score, guth, well played!

Thanks! I don't fully remember tuesday's map, but I think I used my usual "St Petersburg achievement" strategy. Was it really Mumbai, though? I thought yesterday's extreme map was Mumbai and I don't recall playing the same map twice in a row. Maybe I'm getting senile... :)

Personally, I'm a little annoyed by the two extreme maps so far this week, where I placed 11th and 12th. I don't think it's bad, it's just that it was right outside top 10. :|

I think I'll skip today's normal map, btw. I noticed that it takes a lot of points to try and win today, and that means *lots* of time spent making endless ghost lines. And I really don't like that. I often start a normal map, and later regret starting it. Like when I got around 8100 points on the Osaka challenge last week, the difficulty increased so slowly that I thought it would never end. Some people will probably say I should play the normal mode "normally", but not getting as many points as you can isn't fun either.

It would be fun to hear from more people you see on the scoreboards, like hikakoda, or the Goldfish guy with the complicated name, or IRMan that I don't think I've seen in a while, etc (I can't name you all). But all daily challengers are obviously very welcome to share their thoughts here. I guess most players don't read the forums, though.

I might be the senile one (after all, I am 50+) so the map on December 25th could have been something other than Mumbai. Suggestion to the developers: could we get a title on the daily score that says which map it is? I often check back on the past week to see which names are on the scoreboards.

I only play the challenge if it's on extreme mode. Otherwise, I play that level in on extreme difficulty outside the challenge.
guth Dec 28, 2018 @ 1:55am
kentavious in the lead today... wtf! :)
guth Dec 28, 2018 @ 2:02am
mindhaq, yeah I definitely prefer the extreme mode. I actually think I've played all of those challenges since I got the game in July 2018. But I sometimes play normal mode too.

I just played the san fran extreme mode one, very hard. Havent had much practice with extreme mode. I did better in my practice run than the daily challenge one. (909 to 202)

Today's San Francisco extreme is just impossible for me. I've tried it 6-7 times now with different strategies (loops, star pattern, never two same stations after each other, as many lines as possible, as many carriages as possible, and so on) and I never get over 800 points no matter what I do.

I got my 909 by waiting for the stations to pop at least five. I had a closed circle line on the middle island. Then two lines reaching to all corners and another added to collect the bottom ones.
The DC one went terribly, as they were different spawns. I thought for extreme there would be the same rate and distance of spawnage so you can at least memorise it for your lines.
guth Dec 29, 2018 @ 11:00am
OldGamer, different runs are usually very different due to different spawn rates etc. I think the only time it really makes sense to compare scores is in the daily challenge (for one single day), since everything happens the same way for all runs and all players.

nelson, remember I felt the same way when I repeatedly tried to reach your score on an extreme map a few weeks ago. Nothing worked, no matter what I did. Today, things worked better. :)
By the end I had a short tunnel line going north, one line staying on the starting island, three tunnel lines going right, and one line on the right side only (the only one not connected to the square). I never use loops on extreme maps.

I understand that but I thought it would work differently for extreme due to the "creative" restraints. Yeah, I never play extreme hence why I closed a loop by accident, however, that worked out well whilst my DC try, I didn't do a closed loop and did terribly lol.

Hmm... I got 3075 today, which is less than half your score, nelson. On the other hand, I didn't pause. :)
nelson Dec 30, 2018 @ 3:41am
I'm sure you'd have beaten me easily if you had paused, guth! But I DID run on "fast" as long as possible, so it shouldn't take forever to finish. Quite satisfied with the result though, there were a LOT of stations almost full circle...

San Francisco extreme again(!), and this time you did better, nelson. I wonder if maybe you did something similar to what I wrote above, cause I did, and we got very similar scores. We'll see if we can remain on the top 10 the whole day (/year). I doubt it, though. :(

Btw, happy 2019 everybody!
