They mentioned a career mode and solo play, so I'm just posting anyway because it's an actual official reply, just in case anyone else was confused.

That's fair I honestly thought this was gonna be a free to play online game and didn't read that it had other modes it didn't really seem like the type of game to have a story mode from the playtest I was in. They probly kept it online only cause the main draw is the online multiplayer and didn't want to waste time or resources setting up an offline mode.

no, it doesn't. it doesn't matter what mode you play, it will require an online connection because they built and store the AI bots server side. there is no offline play.

The other issue is that it is unlikely these servers are going to last for long. Given the failure of the Fantastic Beasts franchise and the TV show being tenuous at best and produced by HBO, who knows how long WB will retain the rights to HP? Once they don't, bye bye servers. And there's also the problem of the major controversies surrounding the entirety of this; from Rowling issues, to issues with Portkey lying to players of the previous game (where they tested this and promised to add it to), to the ever worsening reputation of WB. A lot of people are going to boycott this game, and it was niche to begin with; what amounts to a sports game that caters to book and gaming nerds. I would bet good money that they make some significant changes, or its dead on arrival.

I'd like to be able to play if my internet goes down, but doesn't sound like a big issue for the majority or time. By and large the only time I don't have internet is if my power is out lol.

In reference to playing it on Playstation: "A subscription is not required to play the game’s single player Career Mode, however a PlayStation®Plus membership, Game Pass Core membership, or Nintendo Switch Online subscription is required to play the Online Competitive Mode."

You might need to be online, but it does have a single player mode so I'm not sure. It's kind of ambiguous for now.
